Just a couple of things. The biggest welfare areas are cities that have been democratic for decades. Cities and states even run by Republicans are doing much better.

The issue of same sex marriage is the issue of the state defining a religious term. What the state is really regulating is a joint legal status and that is what they should call it.

Thirdly, A fetish in not just a woman's body because it took part of a man to get her pregnant. And what about the rights of the father not to mention the person inside of her? And if you want to say that it is not legally a person then find me a person that wasn't a baby to begin with.

Also *Historical fact, after WW1 and the German Monarch was disbanded Germany went into a Democratic state called the Weimar Republik, in a Parlamentary system ruled by SDP (Sozialdemokratische Partei) Social Democratic Party (They still "rule" today) The reason as to why the Nazis gained control is similar as to what is happening to many Western nations today, with radical ideas making headlines and talks of "knowing what is actually going on in the govt" the National Socialist Party (Nazis) destroyed the Democratic system by doing many things to get the people angry and Scared from foreigners/immigrants, like Burning down the Reichstag. Free college tuition ended in the 1960s. I just missed it. However, for compensation, I did receive a first round draft pick by the US Army. Free college is not an UnAmerican idea. Many institutions had free tuition, with only incidental costs.

Social Security has always been a Ponzi scheme. Thank you FDR. The reason it's not solvent is two fold. First, the false premise that birth rates would continue to increase, allowing the Ponzi scheme to flourish. Second, that fact that it is constantly raided by the Government to pay for other things. Our National debt is not only what the Government owes outside entities, it also is what it owes itself.

On the German note... More Germans wanted the NSDP in power then other factions, at least initially. They did win elections. However, let's not confuse the NSDP and Hitler. There was a party before Hitler took it over. And their ideals weren't that far fetched for the time. FDR stole most of their platform for his "Points of Light." Fascism has received a black name through history because of Hitler. Fascism was alive in Spain until 1978. As an ally of the United States. While most historians quibble that Franco wasn't a "core fascist" one has to only look at Spain's policies to see that there wasn't much difference.

Again, it gave control of the welfare system back to the states. Now, you want to look at how those states vote for their state leaders? Well, let's keep in mind that Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, the top 3 welfare recipients are still heavily republican dominated states.

The article's entire argument is based on the crucial information that Congress controls welfare, which is incorrect to say the least.

The point of the article, as with all statistics, it all depends on how your compare the numbers. Yes, some states have historically high unemployment and poverty. I think many locations have more to do with whose in the state house.

Oh, and by the way, the federal government may send the money to the states but don't think for an instance that they don't set most of the rules.

Proof of democratic city failures? Well, given that most really large cities are democratic and most rural areas are republican. But just take a look at places like Atlanta, Detroit, Oakland, Gary, Cleveland, Washington DC - need I list more? Marshal, you do make some good points and I agree with a lot that Wicked Lady said. I have been to Europe multiple times and would not say it is all bad. I was surprised at how clean London was when I was there.

I'm not THAT old and there won't be social security for when I reach that eligible age, which is 15 to 20 years off. So, what do you have to say to that? I've paid in lots of money, MY money, for my future, but it won't be there. I don't rely on the government, thus why I have my own personal retirement plan. And, why do I have what I have? SiezeForce, you are missing my point. Many historically Democratically run cities are in major trouble. Illinois, democratic for I don't know how long, is in major financial trouble, not to mention California. Most cities doing well now are run by Republicans. While this might not always be true throughout history it is at the moment.

I don't expect Trump to control Congress. That's not the president's job. His job, which presidents seem to forget lately, is to run the government bodies, not do Congress's job. I would be happy if he did just that well.

Blaming the voter for the actions of the Federal government over the past 70 years is like blaming the crime victim. We have been systematically robbed of our treasure by corrupt and inefficient government at all levels.

Parties are irrelevant. Both are corrupt and making themselves rich at our expense. Most of the issues you hold so dear are just political theater for the respective voter base. The real power isn't in Washington. It is inside corporations and the self appointed elite who really run the country.

I am going to write my opinion based on what I see, but please note that this is going to be from a religious perspective and what I know from reading the Bible. I know some of you may not believe in God, and I respect that, and it is not my intention to shove religion down anyone's throat. I confess though, I do pray for everyone to know God's love.

The United States of America is "one nation under God". Our country has grown so far away from God, it isn't even funny. The good Lord has blessed America in many ways.......wealth, prosperity, abundance of food and water. We have always had a hedge of protection around us. Now, we are living our lives, away from God, replacing Him with money as our idol. God punishes His people, a wake up call, per se, for them to refocus on Him and not of things of the world. Now this doesn't mean you can't have nice things or know the importance of money, it simply means, you put God first above everything.

Our wake-up call was 9-11. Since then attacks on America have at last come to our soil. It has come to everyone's soil. Everyone should be concerned about ISIS, not just Americans.

Our great nation will fall under God's wrath if we stick to our current path. We can be likened to Israel, as written about in the Old Testament. I encourage people to read Joel, Amos, Isaiah. You can see God's wrath on people who consistently refuse to repent and return to Him.

Many of our elected officials, I believe are under the spirit of Anti-Christ. Many people are too. This is not to say they are "the devil" but they are influenced by powers of darkness and principalities. As the Bible says, "we do not war with flesh and blood." These elected officials exploit people, take advantage of them as they become wealthy and prosperous at our expense.

You see the Democratic Party and even members of the Republican party have their own selfish agendas in mind, and do not have the best interests of the American people at heart. Hillary Clinton is by far one of the most corrupt individuals I have ever seen, and blatantly so, and jokes about it. Yet, so many Americans are blind or don't care as long as they can get their "free lunch." It is a lie, my American friends. They are controlling your lives and keeping you right where they want you, as they gain and gain in money and power. They (the Democrats) are taking away your freedoms and liberties right before your very own eyes. You want to know why gun control is so important to them? They want to control every aspect of your existence, even your right to protect yourselves. The Democrats want you to be dependent upon them, the government, for everything. Thus they have the power. The POWER needs to be taken back by the American people.

No. We need to be an independent nation with our freedoms and liberties in place under God. We should not have to restrict God, the pledge of allegiance, the 10 commandments from our work places and schools. This is what our country is founded on, and thus where it should stay. We need to stop depending on the Government to take care of us. Families need to stick together, help each other. Communities need to do the same.

I wonder how many millions of dollars from the Clinton Foundation has gone to clean up the inner cities, where there is poverty and no hope? Uh, none. lol Wake up, people. Look at all the millions of dollars that have been given to Clinton for this campaign. If monies can be given for campaigns.... in the millions, can't they, the donors, extend these millions to the citizens needing help? It's all about greed, control, power.

Now Trump. He has no political background. He's a billionaire, so really he has all the money and "power" he needs. I honestly feel like he is sincere in trying to help America, and that he loves his country. He knows the political game. He's used it to his advantage as a successful businessman. And he has stated this to the American people. It is really quite refreshingly honest. Yes, he is blunt. Yes, he doesn't say the right thing all the time. He tells it like he sees it. He echoes many of the people's sentiments, yet he isn't afraid to say it. Many people are.

I believe Donald Trump is being used by God to wake people up - a shaking of sorts. God uses unlikely people like He did with Paul in the Bible, who killed Christians, to spread His message.

I pray people wake up. This election is a critical turning point in our nation. If we continue the same path, we will fall. With Trump, there is some semblance of hope, for our struggling nation.

But, ultimately, our hope needs to be with God and not really in any government official. Only He can turn the country around.

Oh and SeizeForce, you may not appreciate what I say or what anyone says here, but you need to be respectful. A successful orator (or writer here) is one who uses intellect, compassion, and respect in citing one's view. It has more impact.

I'd rather not read the whole thing as it sounds like you wish for the US to have some kind of theocratic government. And it's good the US is moving away from religion. Separation of church and state, don't know if you've heard of it.

And can't really call a man like Donald Trump who donated to Planned Parenthood a good christian man.

And you can't also call Donald Trump a good candidate when Arizona and Georgia are battleground states this election. That's pretty SAD! LOW ENERGY.

Where does it mention the words separation of church and state in the 1st amendment? Its called" Freedom of Religion". The government can't establish an official religion or interfere with people's right to freely exercise their religion. It does mean that people of faith can freely participate in government without any interference from the state. Also it means that people have the right to decide not to follow the Christian faith. The Bible talks about that as well. The only religion that has elements that desire a theocratic government is Islam. Iran would be a prime example of that. Saudi Arabia as well.

The phase 'separation of church and state' is from a letter by Thomas Jefferson, not even a government document. I get so tired of people quoting it like it is more than that.

Of course I am just a extensive reader of history and picky that way

William, as courts have said, the principle of "separation of church and state" is IN the first amendment.
