SLAVERY IS WRONG!

I'd like to suggest that "Slave" countries be renamed to Province, Satellite, or Imperial countries. Anything other than the current name.

And a slave cylinder in a hydraulic system should be called something else? Slaving over a hot stove? don't join the PC group Scarlet Laguna and Aries, it's pathetic. Already we cant have blackboards in schools, gollywogs on jam jars or handicapped people.

It's just a word and has always meant what it does, because of an association with an evil in one of its' forms doesn't mean the word shouldn't be used where it applies.

It's more that it's a lame name for countries in an empire. Should we keep lame names to please the non-PC people?

I'm not one to fret over political correct.

It is just that Province adds more to the role-playing aspect of the game than Slave country.

I always thought the term slave country was kinda stupid considering the multitude of better suited names. And crafty stop being so concerned about people who are concerned about political correctness your all just wasting time on trivial mind numbing semantics

well, why not simply make it possible that you can choose if you want to call it slave, province or whatever just like you can choose if you want to call your Country a democratic one or a dictatorship etc...? Doesnt make a different but you could choose how you'd call it to fit you government style

A slave nation just doesn't fit any context at all but yes you make a point

I think Scarlet is right here, there is better names to call those other countries other than "slave" as calling them province, satellite or even colony, would make better sense if this game is to be more realistic.

Although i've got to say to you that political correctness is not the issue here, and I too, like Crafty, am not a very big fan of it either. All I want is more realism with it's names as the word "slave" is the wrong word to use for an online game such as this one.

However I know in the UK that Northern Ireland is often reffered to as a "Province" in the mainstream media, and it would be stupid for them to start calling it a "slave" country of the UK as it would give most people the wrong impression of it.

Then, Borg Queen, the issue would be over the default denomination.

Would guess default would be 'slave' as it was the name before.
And tbh, I think 'slave'-country is the most pinpointing name as you can do with your population what ever you want, make them move, change their jobs (even if its just downgrading to worker groups) and most important, you can trade your pop with other countries and even sell/buy them.
So I agree with you that you should be able to name it whatever you want to, but 'slave'-state should still be available if one likes it.

Slave is the perfect definition.

slave (slv)

1. One bound in servitude as the property of a person or household.
2. One who is abjectly subservient to a specified person or influence:
3. One who works extremely hard.
4. A machine or component controlled by another machine or component.
intr.v. slaved, slav·ing, slaves
1. To work very hard or doggedly; toil.
2. To trade in or transport slaves.

1) It is not a person.
2) It is no more or less subservient than the "leader" country.
3) It does not work.
4) It operates completely independently of the other countries. The only thing shared is the president.

I agree with the reasoning that there are far better words that could be used for aesthetic purposes, but Scarlet's original thread title is 'slavery is wrong' which kind of implied he had a problem with the title in the PC sense. Hence my post.

PML jack, wasting time...what? playing an internet game...no, never...Arguing semantics is one of the joys of the forums :)

The last sentence was the point of my post which I copied and pasted from the dict. The movement of pop as you see fit makes them slaves. I dont have a problem with that.

Am I Jark? I'll shit on you from a great height. Name your country/world and I teach you a thing or 2.

An Saor Poblacht de Ardglass on WG ......... its a game hence the free movement of pop.... I like to think of it as incentivizing as the people in my leader country are just as free as people in slave countries having a country filled with slaves is untenable as we know.... sorry I called you dumb

I think they are called "slaves" because no matter how much independence it has, when the leader says jump, it doesn't ask how high. It just jumps.

And Gary, mess with Jark, and you mess with me. If necessary, I'll show you how we brought the pain back in my day, you young pup.

Lame names are in this game all over...look at what most Country President's names are...most are some gooblygook alpha-numeric names or special characters as if your parents would have named you that....so why get upset at all if lame is the name of the game already?

Gary Morgan put it well on his definition (Check out #2/4 if you want to consider the country itself rather than the people):

lave (slv)
n.
1. One bound in servitude as the property of a person or household.
2. One who is abjectly subservient to a specified person or influence:
3. One who works extremely hard.
4. A machine or component controlled by another machine or component.

"One" refers to a person.... a country is neither a machine nor a person..... idk why you keep trying to argue this... scarlets suggestion simply makes sense.... as for your initial argument the GM cannot control what people name their presidents therefore it does not bother me nor would i suggest anything to change it.... however using the term slave to refer to what should be a province colony or puppet state is just an insult to proper use of english and its denotations aswell as connotations

Your right just change history. The worlds beautiful, there is no evil, slaves were only in the United States. (I'm sure they have been apart of history from B.C.) Hey who cares if we get history right. Global warming a bigger threat than a meter, or nuclear war.
Just a quick point of fact. If you were to take my country or empire in war, would that country or empire regardless of fillings, not consider them self's to be slave?
