In principle this sounds like a great idea, and I would also love to see it, but I suspect that the math necessary to continuously calculate the different relative values of each of the different currencies would be far too much for simcountry to handle. Just think: If each country in simcountry used a separate currency, rather than simply calculating the value of each product in only one currency, simcountry would be forced to calculate the separate value of each individual product in literally thousands of different currencies. Considering that there are about 200+ different products to begin with, that would be a lot of calculations. Also, if corporations residing in any particular country were forced to pay taxes and country resource payments in the currency of that country and not in any other currency, then whenever a country, an enterprise or a corporation bought anything from a corporation, they would have to pay in the currency of the nation in which that corporation was located. This would mean that when ever you bought something on the world market, you would first need to sell a portion of whatever currency your country or enterprise used, in exchange for the currencies used by whomever you were buying from. In order to do this, someone would have to calculate the precise value of each of the several thousand or so currencies, as denominated in each of the other several thousand or so currencies. Figuring out the precise values of every individual currency in relation to every other individual currency would require a detailed analysis and comparison of the economic strength of each of the different countries issuing each of the different currencies, of the volume of currency issued by each individual country, and of the propensity of the president of that country to issue more currency at will thus devaluing said currency. All of these things would have to be calculated in detail to calculate the exact value of each different currency and to thus determine the proper exchange rate. I simply think that would be way, WAY too much for any human or computer to calculate. I agree that it would be very interesting for each country to be able to issue its own currency, and it would definitely add an entirely new dynamic to the game. However, I don't really think it would be practical, because I think the math would simply be too much for simcountry to handle. Even in the real world, most countries don't carry out international trade in their own local currencies. Throughout most of the history of civilization, countries used precious metals, such as gold, silver and copper, as mediums if international trade. Today, nearly every country in the world uses the US dollar for international trade because the entire world needs US dollars to by oil, and whenever any oil exporting country attempts to sell its oil for any currency other than US dollars, we invade them militarily and kill whatever national leader was audacious enough to sell that country's oil for a currency other than the US dollar. (Think Saddam Hussein, Moammar Gadhafi, etcetera.) When we are eventually no longer militarily able to force the world to use our currency, the world will probably return to using gold as its medium of international trade, because gold is something which the United States Federal Reserve bank can't simply create more of whenever they wish to. Even then, there will probably still be a single international currency used by all or most of the nations of the world to trade with one-another. That currency will simply be made of gold rather than paper.
