Step 1:
Make everything capable of being traded through virtual assets... everything: countries, enterprises, cargo shuttles, military products, non-military products, GC, SC$, and corporations.
Step 2:
Eliminate the "buy and sell" for the direct trade account (for GC, SC$, all products), eliminate direct trading within worlds, eliminate the cash market trading for countries/enterprises, eliminate space markets as they exist.
Step 3:
Just make a single giant space station that products must be placed into to be packaged into a virtual asset and where products are spawned when claimed as a virtual asset. Cargo shuttles can be used to transport to and from.
Reason:
To create a "free market" that can be used/abused in the context of the game for expanding and exploiting trade possibilities. Automatic transactions and price controls are lame... where's the concern over whether to trust the person you're trading with? Where's the curiosity over whether something is a good deal or not?
In short, make trading about interacting with other players and paying attention to the game. Make it about trust, cheating, favors, discounts, extortion, and gifts.
