IDC: notice of intent (Little Upsilon)

I had recently come to a verbal agreement with the new chairman of the IDC for a non aggression treaty. However in the past week events have unfolded that will possibly lead to reconsideration of that treaty.

Dear Chairperson of the IDC:

I regret to inform you that 3 of your members have acted unnecessarily blunt towards a new player. "Using nukes indiscriminately and without care for fallout or the result of their actions.

As a member of the security council, it is my duty to not only protect the community, but the new player block that will ultimately enter into our glorious world.

I demand compensation for any victims of fallout, regardless of who fired the nukes. As semi-seasoned players they bear responsibility for fallout, and could be the only participants knowledgeable enough to understand the use of these weapons and the repercussions of the use of these weapons.

I demand expulsion of these 3 members from your federation. Actions against these 3 members are forthcoming and we do not wish to extend hostilities to the IDC. We also do not wish to jeopardize our newly found peaceful relationship with the IDC.

However, these actions are intolerable and irresponsible and I hope that the IDC doesn't wish to share the reputation these players have now earned. Thank you. These terms are non-negotiable and actions against these 3 have been decreed and is final.

I can't see 3 key members of a fed being expelled.

Also, in light of Wendy conquering some of Lord Lee's countries a little while back while he was in the IDC, and then recent events, I see much egg on faces abound.

Wendy, most LU business is discussed at least soime time in a public space online. As an LU investor, I feel it is my business, without mentioning the enterntainment factor.

Lee was inactive for a short period and you conquered his countries while he was a member of IDC. I know this because he continued to the play the game when he stays at mine from time to time, and he showed me. So, you're right, not really a "war".

I was on Gr for 7 years and played a huge part in the politics and I take a great interest in my new home world.

A slight correction to be made. Lee didn't lose countries on LU, it was on GR, so it wasn't this fed covering his defence.

Frankly, right now, I am in no mind to evict these three players from the IDC. As far as I know, this war, as unfortunate as it may have been, was not unjustified. The problem in this war seemed to be the vote of the Security Council, which unfortunately passed without the assent of the majority of Council members.

I will be asking the three players for an explanation of their actions. I will also be asking them to pass on some compensation to countries inadvertently affected by the fallout. This will be a request, not a demand.

Although these players are members of IDC, this was a private war that occurred outside of the scope of my knowledge. I will ask that these players, as part of IDC, alert me to potential wars before they happen so that I can determine the federation's stance on the war; in the case of this war, I was informed after the fact; however, SSRCP did ask if this war was okay by me and the IDC as a whole, and I said that it was fine, because EVERY MEMBER OF THE IDC HAS A SOVEREIGN RIGHT TO DECLARE WAR ON NON-MEMBERS AS THEY CHOOSE TO (caps for emphasis). So this, in sum, is my reply:

I will ask SSRCP and co. to offer compensation to affected countries. I will not evict these players, because they have a right to fight who they wish. Although the IDC does not necessarily support this war, it supports these players' sovereign right to declare war.

So the IDC doesn't mind its members stomping n00bs?

Our agreement does not give you a right to blackmail the IDC or its members. We will not be bullied by you. If you choose to break this Pact because you have decided that it is wrong to conduct nuclear warfare against a player, you will not only be declaring yourself to be two-faced in front of the entire population of LU, you will be breaking your word. Nowhere in our agreement did I agree that I would withhold the sovereign right of the IDC's members to declare war or use nuclear weapons. We are holding up our end of the Pact - thus, if you do choose to break the Pact, you have broken your word without any provocation whatsoever.
As for your new stance towards nuclear weapons, I'd like to simply point out the actions that you took against Keto in the very thread that you have linked. You said that you "carpet bombed" his country with nukes. Have you suddenly become a peace-loving hippy, or is this what I think it is: an excuse to break your word?

I made this Pact with you, Wendy, because I saw no sense in continuing the age-old war between Scarlet and you when Scarlet appears to have left the game. Think about what you're doing. Do you really want to make enemies just for the sake of making enemies?

This has nothing to do with nukes. This is about 3 of your members attacking a single player with almost no war knowledge, experience, or capabilities.

Furthermore what part of "We do not wish to extend these hostilities to the IDC" did you not understand? I have asked for their removal so as not to involve you or your federation as a whole. These players have shown a willingness and capability to defend themselves, why not let them do so?

No doubt you are correct. Nowhere in our agreement did i say would stand by idly while your members beat up on a player who has no allies nor any knowledge on how to defend himself.

I have kept my word as well. I only intend on attacking these 4 members. Should they still be in the IDC when my declares go out, I will consider that I was dealing with someone who lacks the leadership and credibility to make such an agreement in the first place and will consider it null and void. You wanted to lead, now it is time to stand up show some leadership. Actions cannot be without consequence.

I don't need an excuse to break my word. I can simply say, "I change my mind" "I cancel" or any other phrase to kill the verbal agreement we have. My stance on nukes has not changed at ll, you keep mentioning nukes as if they are the problem. Like people going on about guns and gun control. Guns/nukes are not bad, we cannot excuse the way people use them. The issue here is 3 players from your fed, have head bashed a new player. It is irresponsible and disgusting.

What good is a "peace agreement" with you when it is clear these presidents may step outside of your will at anytime and attack anyone at will, even new players that any one of them could have engaged in a fair match. Mob-mentality is bad for the game. Federation members doing silly things they know they shouldn't be doing, without consequence is bad for the game. They wanted to teach AK-47 a lesson,and they need to be taught one of their own as well.

I mean seriously matt, I don't need an excuse, we can call it off right now, skip the forum jive and political niceties and get it on A.S.A. humanly possible.

What I have offered you is a way to allow these presidents to engage in the war game they desire, without sacrificing your entire fed, and the peace you have worked so hard to achieve. The choice is always yours.

Short Answer: Yes.

2. Again, I don't believe AK_47 is a noob, but that's besides the point. As members of a federation, these three were acting as an alliance against a mutual enemy. Maybe he had no allies of his own because he's been an asshat on the forums?

3. Because they are part of the IDC, and, as such, I am obligated, as chairman of the IDC, to stand by them as per the constitution of the IDC. We are allies in a federation - does that not make sense to you?

4. I'm not asking you to stand idly by, I'm asking you to stand by your Non-Aggression Pact, i.e. your word. We declared an armistice and a peace treaty with no conditions. You have chosen to break that peace treaty, using, as an excuse, the first ambiguous event that you could lay your hands on. No one here is fooled by your blatant blackmail, Wendy. No one here is fooled by your propaganda.

5. If you choose to attack these players, so be it. You will be repelled with the full force of the IDC. Let it be known, however, that the first one to break the Pact was you, Wendy - that the responsibility for whatever age-long war results from this poorly planned post was your fault, not mine. I am standing by my fedmates even as you threaten them. You question my leadership ability - what shows more leadership than the loyal defence of one's fedmates?

6. The peace agreement was between the IDC and you. These members have waged a war outside of the official scope of the IDC; as such, your gripe is with these members, not with the IDC. However, as members of the IDC, they have a right to the support and protection of the federation, ESPECIALLY since they have done nothing wrong, at least to my mind.

The way I see it is this: you have a gripe with three of my fedmates. However, you also gave your word that you would not be aggressive towards the IDC. Thus, your choice is: do I break my word in order to act like some kind of World Policewoman, or do I keep my word and condemn the actions of these fedmates, knowing that Matt is making an attempt to address the perceived injustices allegedly perpetrated by members of the IDC?

Ask yourself these three questions:
1. Is this war unjust?
2. Am I justified in waging war against this federation because I perceive this war to be unjust?
3. Am I happy to break my word instead of engaging in diplomacy with Matt?

The IDC will not be blackmailed by you, Wendy. We will not be bullied into tearing ourselves apart.
