I will grant it would be hard for me to keep track of a corporation using less material to make the same amount of product I generally do not track that very close. I do however know when the base production in any corporation I own increases. That has only happened with one corporation targon missiles, where there was a base production increased to 900 per month and was rapidly choked back down to 800.
You say you have to decrease the total number of corporations per world. I can only assume this is related to processing power so something has changed. This game ran for many years as it was without any issues in that respect that I was aware of with worlds that were fairly full and very active.
Now we have a minute fraction of the active players, yet we have to many corporations? We need X number of a particular product each game month. It doesn't matter how "BIG" you make the corporations, without an increase in base production we will still need the same number of corporations. In fact, due to world shortages on many things, we need even more.
My biggest problem with the entire situation is I spend months fine tuning things. You seem to wake up with some random whim and make changes which trashes all that effort and the bad part is there is no real warning and all we get is "there are to many changes to list". We aren't even told about many of them and have to figure out why our population and economy is tanking on our own.
The shocks to the market can normally be handled, fighting the destruction of our countries is getting extremely frustrating to deal with.
