lol LG....
But I cant understand why people complain about paying $3 a month. Thats about 75c a week - just over 10c a day. If your in the UK, that equates to about £2 a month, 40p a week and 6p a day. I know some people dont have much money, but surely if you have access to the interweb, you can find that small pittance from somewhere.
Look down the back of the sofa - i bet you will find enough to keep playing for a few months there!
Anyway - I agree with LG - the paying to play bit does weed out the idiots from the people who are willing to put time and effort into the game. I see so many countries around me come and go - hell there was even one country that had 3 different presidents within the space of a week - at least 2 of them had the courtesy to quit instead of just letting it run. Now, I don't know about you, but when I see a new president in my area, I will always message them and offer help and advice - just to try and keep them playing, but what gets me is when you do this and spend ages helping someone, they just quit a day or so later. The other n00bs are the asshats. They come along and make threats thinking they can take me on with 250 heavy tanks and a handful of ammo. I try to explain to them that they wouldnt even get past my first fort and thats when a lot of them then quit. They realise the game is more than just a war simulator and get bored. A few (well - 1 actually) has carried on giving me insults from behind war protection. I cant wait till his 21 days are up!!!
At a guess - out of 100 players who sign up, I am willing to bet that only 1 will pay. Now, that is a poor conversion rate - and not helping W3C to achieve their target of world domination - so the questions that need to be asked are;
1) What can the gamesmasters do to keep new players interested? For instance, should there be a full tutorial alongside the documentation and tips?
2) What as players of this game can we do to keep newbies interested?
3) Should the free play time be longer? That way, once someone has put a lot of time into their empire, they are more likely to continue playing when it comes to paying. I for one wouldnt mind paying an extra 10c a month to subsidise the noobs. Thats if it would work.
I think the sales conversion rate needs to be addressed. Lets face it - the more paid members there are, the better the game will be, so it's in all of our interests to do something about it.
