Upgrading corporations

More corporations are being upgraded and upgraded again.
We hope that it will result in more profitable corporations and may also stop the increasing numbers of corporations.

Some are becoming a bit larger and produce more. This will increase their profitability.

Military Units

More units are now about 5% smaller than before. and some weapons are now using a slightly smaller number of ammunition rounds per attack.

Defensive Light Drones

We have added defensive light drones to Simcountry. You can build corporations but no ammunition and no military units yet.

This is part of a larger development that will introduce unmanned weapons
to simcountry. and make drones more prominent.

The upgrade will be completed in the coming hours.

Also in this update:

the contribution by CEO corporations to the hosting country is reduced.

Why are we adding more defensive weapons? Are you going to fix the Targon battery problem they allow nukes to get through? Why not add a buff to weapons such as heavy tanks or add offensive weapons?

Andy, I realize today's world show's more reliance on drones but Corleone is right, we really have enough weapons if they'd work the way they use to, need to or are advertised in the documents as doing.

There are offensive weapons nobody even bothers with anymore since they've been neutered over the years trying to appease the people that refused to buy the equipment necessary to defend against them.

His complaint against targon batteries is a valid one. According to the documents and hit percentages they should be the best thing since buttered bread however, they are easy to overwhelm letting land based nukes to get through.

In their current configuration I don't rely or even deploy them anymore. While they do perform well in certain types of attacks considering the manpower consumed, and reliability of ammo supply, they simply IMHO aren't worth investing in if nuclear defense is your primary objective.

Also in this upgrade:

As corporations grow and cash need might increase, we have raised the amount that can be moved from the country to its corporations from 120B to 240B.

it will reduce the effort of providing cash to large corporations.

We think that that drone capabilities should be extended.
I agree that we do have too many weapon systems.
we intend to shift away from several existing weapons.
We did it before.

About Targon units:

we will add defense against tanks and artilery in the Targon units.

I do not understand the claim that nuclear missiles can come through.
Targon units can stop all nuclear weapons.

Maybe very large numbers come through. More info will help.
Destroying a Targon system should be possible but hard and at a very high cost. i
we cannot have weapon systems that can never be desroyed.
If the problem is the numbers of attacking nuclear weapons, we will increase the ammunition numbers in the Targon units but the risc will remain although at a much higher cost.

The cost of Targon weapons and ammo was reduced in the last two upgrades.
Their availability is improving and shortly, they will be trading freely on the markets and not restricted to direct contracts.

This discussion is very helpful.
Some complaints come up we never heard before.

we do things to improve, someone gets upset and all of a sudden,
comes up with some info we did not know about.

please keep going.

A good explanation about a weapon system that you never use because you found out it is not helpful is very helpful for us.

not 20 at the same moment but as this discussion proceeds, we will continue to listen and improve.

Andy targon missile batteries on paper should be the Iron dome of Simcountry. Their hit and destroy stats are impressive.

In practice magazine depth is a problem, you fire enough missiles from a land base and they are easily overwhelmed with what they CAN fire and limited by ammo.

Nuke defense batteries only shoot at nukes, Targon batteries will try to stop every incoming missile. Their number of shots per round are not up to the task.

They require the same manpower as nuke defense and require more of them to do the same job if nuke defense is your primary objective. They are of course good area defense but should never be relied on for nuke defense because they will be run out of ammo.

Try to limit the number of weapons fired from a land base and you've removed one of the few tools left for fighting an enemy with a decent defense and war between larger players is gone completely leaving those seeking PVP no option but smaller players. Unless of course you don't mind spending a month or two along with ungodly amounts of money and weapons fighting something you know from the start is going to end in a draw unless someone makes a mistake or runs out of ammo.

Increase the shots fired per round and you run them out of ammo faster so it's the same result.

Targon batteries don't need defense against tanks and artillery. If you can get either close enough to them to do any damage the war is already over. I think you can only kill them with tanks anyway which by it's self makes them pretty much impervious to attacks until the war is lost. If you've already got the war won and the Targon units are out of ammo, why destroy them anyway? Simply capture them with the country. If you don't want them sell them to someone who does.

IMHO If you really want to make a change that would increase the usefulness of Targon missile batteries, Right now you can get 2 different type land units responding to an attack (plus a garrison if they attack the target direct) if they are in range, 3 IF you have mobile missiles or another type of professional soldier unit with the correct weapons. Keep that and add the Targon missile units that are in range making it 4. Or better yet any in range no matter the number. You'd still have the problem with ammo but until then you'd have an extremely powerful and desirable weapon platform.

The problem with doing that is, a good defense without Targon missile batteries is already strong enough very few can afford to overcome it. And I thought reducing the cost of war was your objective.

What is a good rule of thumb for "Iron Dome" for regular countries not using Targon. Thanks

There really is no way even with Targon batteries to keep someone from destroying targets if they have the weapons and the will to use and lose them.

You want to protect your population centers, military assets and economy as much as possible. They might get it but you want it to cost them to do so.

Right now war in sim country is much like fighting a dog, it's not hard to do if you aren't afraid of getting bit getting to them.
Undefended targets are a weak point and every target down to forts is targeted by at least sub nukes. There is noting that can stop a sub nuke or any nuke other than nuclear defense and targon batteries (if they have ammo).

What I do is put a small garrison at every target that contains nuclear defense batteries. It takes 1 battery to stop a sub nuke 2 to stop strategic bombers and I would have to look at the docs to be sure but 1 to stop a land based nuke battery. Strategic bombers can only attack certain targets military and pop centers so even though you don't "need" more than 1 nuclear defense battery on many other targets all my garrisons have two.

Everything else is defended by at least two different types of defensive land units along of course Federation air wings. One of them will also have nuclear defense in case they got through and nailed the garrison batteries.

How many you need depends on how far from the poles you are. Countries at the top and bottom of the map are smaller than those in the center. I use anywhere from 15-30 of each type for a total of 30 or 60 depending on the country.

Land defense units will protect against any attack no more than 30 miles from where it is sitting.

It's rather vague but simple fact is you'll have to experiment to find out what works for you. I will tell you weapons and ammo are not the only consideration in war. You need massive amounts of construction to quickly repair damage and war hospitals to heal wounded. 2,000,000,000 construction in stock is barely enough and I've got as many as 500 war hospitals in some countries and that number increases with every war.

Hey Andy,

The war engine is complicated, it has "emergent properties". The ai says "an emergent property is a characteristic that a complex system has, but which the individual parts do not have on their own. These properties appear only when the parts interact together in a larger whole. As the saying goes, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts"

We all know you have no actual experience with it, and the docs don't fully convey how it behaves. This is why you can't understand my arguments and never will. How can you devlop and work on a game mechanic that you don't even use?

Join me and Yankee on FB, or come and oppose us on FB and let's get you upto speed.

Yankee,

Thank you for your response.

We have obviously made some mistakes in the setup of the targon weapons and I wish we had discovered them earlier.
we will improve these weapons and units, starting with the next upgrade.

It will probably require some more rounds of corrections in the coming 2 weeks.

Some people jump to conclusions about everything and this is OK too.

important is: can we fix it?
we think we can.

@Andy, I know you "think" you can fix this and, maybe you can. There is a major problem with many of the "adjustments" made to the war engine which as hymy pointed out can affect other things.

I don't know what you guys do in off server testing but is there anyone inside your company with actual experience with it online? Off server testing against participants with the same knowledge base will not yield the same results when going against players that actually read the documents and test the capabilities then share the outcome in a multitude of situations.

You can look at the logs and see A did this and X happened. But do you really know why A did that in the first place? You are testing to see IF something works, we are testing capabilities published in the documents to find an advantage in the WAY it works.

That will usually yield different results, especially if the documents are not complete. I can't say I've ever found "wrong" information in the documents but, there is a lot that either isn't covered or is extremely vague meaning you'd never know or discover without actually fighting another player.

Yankee,

If you think the documents are incomplete, I would love to hear more.
The current capabilities of the weapons are used when the documents are updated automatically with each upgrade.

If something is missing, it remains missing and comments by players remain welcome so we can improve.
