Laguna | Wednesday, September 11, 2024 - 08:59 pm Every so often I'm able to log into the Simcountry Portal, but I'm unable to log into any country or enterprise of a specific world. That website is unreachable and I get an Error 404. Right now I'm unable to reach Kebir Blue: https://sim01.simcountry.com I've seen this happen for LU and GR as well. Is the dev team aware of any website down time? From what I remember, Simcountry moved to be hosted by AWS, so I don't see why this would happen. Has anyone experienced this? |
hymy1 | Thursday, September 12, 2024 - 12:37 am Yes it occurs, they are very brief. People have noticed changes that seem to occur after they return. I've never seen it affect more than one world at time. Given what is known, I think most people think it's just down for maintenance. Maybe, the GM will enlighten us? |
Andy | Thursday, September 12, 2024 - 10:27 am This sounds alarming and we have not heard of it before. We know that the portal is very busy as it runs the cargo shuttles but it is a powerful server. It will help us if you could mail or place a message here with the time it occurred. we are recording server load all the time and we know when heavy processing takes place. There are several backup processes that can cause high load and the timing of the problems could help a lot. Thank you for your help. |
Laguna | Thursday, September 12, 2024 - 11:56 am This happened yesterday exactly at 21:00 CET for Kebir Blue. At the same time I could log into LU just fine. I'll post here every time I notice it. |
Laguna | Thursday, September 12, 2024 - 01:06 pm Right now for KB at 13:05 CET
|
Laguna | Thursday, September 12, 2024 - 01:08 pm It just says the website is unreachable. Couldn't find the IP of the server. |
Laguna | Thursday, September 12, 2024 - 01:56 pm Now it's LU at 13:55 CET. |
Andy | Friday, September 13, 2024 - 04:09 pm Laguna, where are you? How long did these problems continue? minutes? IP number is a local name server problem. I thought you had problems with the portal. not the worlds. but we will check. |
Laguna | Friday, September 13, 2024 - 06:45 pm I am in Portugal. Each outage lasted at least 10m yesterday. I think I only had this issue with the Portal once. I was already logged in, playing in KB, and when I went back to the Portal to switch to LU it also gave me the unreachable message. |
Laguna | Wednesday, September 18, 2024 - 10:34 pm KB is unreachable at 22:34 CET. |
Laguna | Thursday, September 19, 2024 - 01:25 am LU at 01:24 CET. This seems to be periodical. I'd guess there's some process that runs sequentially per world that knocks them out of connection. |
Laguna | Saturday, September 21, 2024 - 01:31 am LU now at 01:30 CET. |
Andy | Thursday, September 26, 2024 - 04:10 pm Laguna, this is strange. we have checked all the servers for processing backlog and there is none. we do have some issues but they do not occur at the same time with what you reported. we had one case in the past day when the LU server reported SERVER DOWN for 3 minutes and then SERVER UP. we were too late to intervene. we check all servers once in several seconds by sending a message that requires a response. The messages are sent by one of the servers on the site and by another server outside the server farm many miles away. If there is no response, they try again and if there is again no response, they report SERVER DOWN and continue sending messages. this is our way to make sure all these servers are alive. we had one such event and did not find a reason. Sometime, there are suddenly many clicks coming in and at the same time, many processes are active. the game month run, trading, database cleanup, and BACKUP functions. in a small number of cases, the surge in processing can cause a short delay in response. we are trying to spread such processing. the BACKUP function will be optimized in the coming weeks. some of the backup functions also check the integrity of the data at the same time and we might need to split backup from integrity checks. Wars are a time consuming events. Some attacks involve very large numbers of weapons and processing can take seconds while everything else is running at the same time. We have no way to know what is coming and how large and how frequent attacks will be. As the number of daily clicks on the site is growing, we continue to optimize. we were too busy lately, but we do have a large server, the largest of all, sitting here at the office for many weeks, to be installed and prepared for transport to the location of the site. |
Laguna | Thursday, September 26, 2024 - 06:11 pm Interesting stuff. Good to know we have a larger server on the way too. As for my issue, I'll reach out to other people when it happens again, to see if it is just on my end. |
Andy | Thursday, September 26, 2024 - 06:37 pm The new server will replace nothing. It will be added. It will improve our ability to reduce the load on other servers if needed and it will improve our capacity to be back up more quickly in case a server breaks down. This is not a frequent event but happened nearly two years ago. |
Laguna | Thursday, October 3, 2024 - 01:06 pm Starting at 12:00 I couldn't access the Simcountry Portal using my phone's web browser. However: 1. I had access on my laptop on wifi. 2. If I turned off wifi, and used the mobile connection, I had access. 3. Went back to wifi on the phone, and couldn't reach the Portal again... I need to figure out what this is about. Anyone else gets this? |
