I'm having a (minor) problem with the News Bar. When I log in as a President, my CPU usage shoots up to 100% whenever the News Bar is displayed. It drops back to 'normal' if I scroll down the page so that it is out of sight.

This problem only affects the News Bar on country pages, not the one on the Simcountry Portal.

Is anyone else having this problem? I'm using Firefox 3.0.5 on Windows XP SP3. I've checked and it doesn't seem to affect Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.

It has to do with the amount of action going on that your Central Processing Unit (CPU) has to process... If you happen to have gauges at the bottom of your screen telling you how much cpu, hd, and ram you are using you will notice that you can max out your cpu usage just by moving the mouse really fast on screen. Also the more windows, tabs, and applications you have open even if they are running in the background use CPU processing power. My laptop generally runs between 35 and 60% when I am working when I close out some programs it drops to about 5 to 25% range.

It also may be your browser. Firefox and IE have become a cows that hog the CPU, especially with add-ons and extra toolbars. Try Google Chrome - it is new so the programmers haven't loaded it down with "features."

It is part of the "natural" development of software.

Yes, I know that the CPU usage is affected by a lot of things. Because it drops the moment the News Bar is off-screen, I know that that is the culprit.

As I said, I checked Chrome and IE and they aren't affected. I wanted to know if it affects a lot of people using Firefox (in which case it's a Firefox problem) or very few (in which case it's probably one of my add-ons causing the problem).

My news bar is not working. It just shows blank and is not moving right to left. I reset pretty much everything in google chrome and it still isn't working. I also pulled up internet explorer and it is not working. Anyone else having this problem? I'm assuming it is from recent updates?
