johnV | Friday, November 11, 2022 - 09:21 am Since we cannot convert SC$ into GC's there is nothing peaceful to do with excess game cash. How about letting us purchase countries for SC$ instead of GC's Or perhaps financing an expedition in the wilder lands for a specific resource. |

Andy | Friday, November 18, 2022 - 05:05 pm Maybe we could start coming up with ideas and then make it happen. ideas are in a way very easy if you do not need to make the development effort that follows and they can require man years of work and then will never happen. the ideas must be possible to implement within the current concept. examples: 1. we could introduce some very special materials that can be brought from far away in the universe to your own country and make it possible to make products for special use in industry or in war. The cost of getting there and back will be very high but the advantages of having these materials could make it worthwhile. we need to develop a plan that will describe the products, their use, cost and advantages. 2. we could start measuring CO2 emissions in countries. Emission levels will depend on the development level of the country, the industry in the country and many more factors that depend on how energy is generated, numbers of cars and trucks etc. we could think of several "solutions" that can help reduce CO2 emissions including: - reduction in use of Oil, Gas, Coal etc. (evidently) - sun and wind energy. (evidently) - way to increase the absorption of CO2. Wood is in fact a storage of Carbon. Grow trees, cut the trees, store the wood, grow more trees. Billions of tons of wood store billions of tons of Carbon. - Many other ways of Storage of CO2 or Carbon. - more? countries could invest in these technologies and achieve results. this could be a measure of success, adding to their score. Emissions are produced by individual countries at different levels but then spread over the world and cause problems everywhere. Players should have data about their own emissions, Absorption in their countries, the sea, forests etc. also data about the results of their efforts and CO2 concentrations in the air, along will data of acceptable levels, limits and damage at certain levels. Money is essential as all the "solutions" we create will have a high cost attached. These are just two ideas. I am sure you can add to them or add more such ideas. |
Lord Mndz | Friday, November 18, 2022 - 05:09 pm Allow community to trade gc for cash, thats it. Some will buy gc some will trade cash, both happy. |
johnV | Saturday, November 19, 2022 - 10:43 am It seems a bit odd a game that promotes nuclear destruction and maiming civilians with chemical weapons is going to worry about carbon footprints. If you don't like those ideas how about ways to repay that CEO that bid on my corps. Like funding dissidents to riot and burn down his factories or hire union organizers to convince his workers to strike or maybe hackers to shut down production. |
Andy | Sunday, November 20, 2022 - 04:01 pm Some like to play a peaceful game. |
Matthew IV | Sunday, December 4, 2022 - 02:37 am I suppose there should be something 'end game' for peaceful players since the end game for most should be PvP. The thing you burn all that cash on is weapons and ammo. Trading cash or population would be very nice. Trading cash for GC is a good idea, but if people could sell countries for cash or population for cash that would be fantastic. Peaceful players could profit from spoils of war, while giving offending countries further incentive to engage in player interaction. @JohnV That would work if the reverse could be done for you. Although, I don't find this much of a 'peaceful' interaction. If someone started hacking my corporations and could shut them down, I'd be looking to send a war declaration. It would be annoying if someone could constantly pester you with no real recourse. |
johnV | Sunday, December 4, 2022 - 09:09 am Matthew, if a CEO's country is < WL3 there is no way to retaliate if they bid on your Ent corps. That idea was a mostly peaceful suggestion for using game cash. |

You can always bid on their CEO Corporations. It's reciprocal, just not super effective for either party. In some niche situations it could be effective, but in my experience it's not very harmful. Even then, your target has to be a CEO since countries can simply block you. I think a hypothetical hacking mechanic that could shut down production, lower quality and cause labor problems to Countries as well as CEO's isn't comparable to hostile bidding. I don't think classifying cyber attacks as a 'peaceful' interaction would be entirely accurate. Not that I would be against it. It could add a dynamic to conflict that isn't just dropping bombs on people. |
Ethelred | Monday, December 5, 2022 - 03:26 pm Some of the people complaining that they have nothing to spend money on are the same people asking for war to be made cheaper. |
Myers | Monday, December 5, 2022 - 06:49 pm @Ethelred, you have misunderstood the whole war cost of war topic. |
Ethelred | Monday, December 5, 2022 - 06:52 pm War cost of war? |
Andy | Tuesday, December 6, 2022 - 01:33 pm Ethelred is right. Many very large players are the most vocal on the cost of war. we could find positive reasons for that. if the cost is reduced, more players could have larger army and the war game will become more active. Large rich players are also frequently very experienced and know the game in all details. Buying corporations requires large amounts of cash. in addition, there are game master corporations that can easily be purchased. if you have cash, you could extend your enterprise more quickly. I have placed a proposal on the general forum for a major extension to Simcountry that will require cash to participate and will not require many gold coins. The issue of CO2 emissions and of renewable energy could be interesting as well. The mechanism of these processes, the logic of it and the business model is not know for most people. There are several models to reduce CO2 emissions, increase CO2 capture and to produce large amounts of energy with wind and sun. |
