Hi Gamemaster and Fellow Gamers,

I want to suggest adding various gemstone types as new mineral types. Currently , we only have gold, silver and platinum as precious metals in Simcountry.

If these new mineral types are added and new reserves are found of these in various countries it will create a new market as well as add a new rush among players to take control of countries having these precious resources.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks for the suggestion.

We have a huge list of products we could add.
it is also not too difficult to do.

The issue is that adding many products will complicate matters, can also add fun but we need to choose ones that can be used in many ways to create a good market.

Gemstones will probably add to the products the population buys for fun.

rare metals that are needed in industry and could add much more than that. These metals could create opportunities for industry, conflicts etc.

Another suggestion is to allow navy fleets and supply fleets to dock at allied or friendly navy bases

do you see any use for gemstones in industry?

Gold, silver and platinum are used in industry.

Luciferous

Corrosion-resistant coatings, bearings, special lenses for laser radiation equipment, heat sinks in electrical circuits, wire drawing, polishing silicon wafers and computer disk drives, drilling/mining, thermal conductivity, semi-conductors, quartz clocks/watches, jewellery and glass manufacture.

That list covers a lot of SC corporations.

Second thoughts, mining corps don't manufacture their own diamond drills they would be bought from an industrial equipment company and corrosion-resistant coatings would come under chemicals.

Industrial equipment, chemicals, jewellery, glass, computers, luxury goods, electronic components.

Probably not enough.

We can add many products.
we could add 5000 products and then some.

does it make sense?
we will add products from time to time but every addition, that helps in making some processes more realistic, also makes the industry more complex.

In addition, small products that are not use in large quantities, are easier to manipulate.

I do not think we should significantly change the number of products.

Thanks Luciferous, for giving that comprehensive list of industrial use of gemstones. I guess that covers a wide array of products people use in real life.

Andy, I guess gemstones will not be that much in quantity, otherwise their prices will fall. However, they are sure to bring in industrial changes as well as give birth to conflicts and wars for control of such deposits.

It can be a new era. Also, for countries near to sea you can give the option of pearl fishing. It will increase new markets.

Currently, you have jewellery where you use gold and silver. You can include high end jewellery with gems and pearls included with metals.
Also, watch manufacturing with gems would be a good product that can come under luxurious goods.

If you want to go for defense, good quality lasers do need Rubies.
Also, mining companies do exist , it would not be much to include a corporation manufacturing mining drills with diamond tips.

I think we already have quite a few industries like Luciferous pointed out.

Great ideas.

There is a problem here.
Should we continue to add more types of corporations and make corporations use more types of raw materials.

We thought that the addition of natural resources might cause war.
I don't think it happened.

Should we grow to a thousand different products?

in the real world there are millions.

There is a lady here who always wanted shoes and pink tanks.
She got shoes.

Is it the Wicked Lady :)

Well I leave to your better judgement. However, these resources can also be treated as alternative financial assets that players can use to hedge their wealth. :)
