1. A new trade called 'banking': banking corporations can engage themselves in share market (either independent or the one we are having) and corporate loan

2. Banks can determine their interest rates to attract customers

3. Countries can set up their own currencies and choose to allow free-floating in the exchange market or pegged to the Simcountry Cash Unit (which is used in all puppet states controlled by Gamemaster)

I'm agree with you, Michael. Besides the possibility to set up corporations named "banks", each country should can own their currency. :)

Speaking of suggestions, if I were you I would use Populi instead of Populorum.

Populorum is the genitive plural for people or nation. You might be defending more than one nation, such as an empire. But one would think populi, as the genitive singular for people or nation, would include an empire. Defensor Populi was a common title. Defensor Populorum just seems redundant and I don't believe that was used.

Madoff thanks for your good idea! Are you taking some sort of Latin course?

I finished school awhile ago. We were expected to achieve reading proficiency in either Latin or ancient Greek, so I did both. I try to keep up since I'm still a bit of a history buff.

Wow great! I'm not well-versed in Koine or Attic. Just started Latin. Haven't read even Caesar :P Only read some works by Augustine and Medieval writers.....

Read some letters by Cicero from Wheelock Latin Reader. If only I had more time for Latin!!!

Vale.

Ah Wheelock's Latin, fun times!

I'd suggest Michael Servus Dei et Defensor Populi Fideique, it's a little cleaner. That said, the classical latinist in me isn't at all sure on the placement of Defensor (it's a more modern English/French usage) and feels you should maybe put it at the end of the sentence (good classical form).. Then again I did skip most of my Latin classes :3

Gratias tibi ago Dubhthaigh!

Waiting for the 7-day restriction on changing public profile to pass.

Checked a Latin lexicon and it says 'defensor' is classical according to Oxford Latin Dictionary. I got the idea to use this word from the British Monarchy's title.

And I'm more than happy and surprised that there are still Latin learners here on Simcountry!!!

I know it's tangential to the topic, but do Latinists like you and Madoff learn prose compo at school? As a self-learner this's a trickier task.

By the way, is there a way W3Creative gets to know my idea?

A couple of us read the forum every day and save all the great feedback we get from the community (even if we don't respond to a thread, we definitely read it).
Wether its a cool new feature idea, a bug report, complaints, general feedback, or anything else really. We appreciate all of it and try to integrate as much of the feedback as we can into the short/long term planning.
We can't get to everything right away so we do our best to prioritise depending on how much of an impact we think a feature/improvement will have on the overall gameplay experience AND how much time it will take us to implement. Bugs are the exception of course.

your suggestions:
1. As I understand it, your suggestion is to create a "bank" corporation type, that profits from loaning out money and trading in shares. This is in essence what is already possible as a country/enterprise.
We discussed this in-house a long time ago and decided that the banking sector should be implemented in the manner that requires the least micro-management for the player.

2. Players used to have a lot more control over the banking system. This caused pretty big problems when a few clever players realised that they could bleed all their slave countries dry into the main country by handing out loans with stupendous interest rates.

3. Localised currencies have also been discussed as part of a feature package that would help countries differentiate themselves more like the real world (example: currency, political ideology, etc).
Since then we have dropped localised currencies from this idea because it would add a lot of complexity for players without really being beneficial for the average players experience.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hope my post gives you some insight on how feedback is handled on our end.
If you have any more questions/suggestions please fire away :)

Any time, Michael :-)

Yes exactly, the word existed as "one who defends" in Classical Latin, but *I think* only assumed a titular significance under modern European monarchies. Could be wrong though.

Thankfully I switched degree before the composition side of things became too heavy, it was definitely the hardest aspect of the language. I can't remember how deep the latter chapters of Wheelock go into it, so maybe you should try translating e.g. Cicero's letters into Latin and comparing that with the original? That should highlight the perils of projecting English language patterns and phrases onto it :P

Thanks for that explanation Jonni. In terms of #3, would it not be interesting to implement a basic form of local currency control consisting perhaps of a simple slider: It may be used to peg your currency at a higher or lower % relative to the world standard. A simple explanation above could outline that a higher % might aid imports (but also curtail exports), and vice versa? It could be fairly easy to add a 'currency charge modifier' to products coming into the country (positive or negative depending on the setting), and also to the income of each country corp.

Jonni thanks for the wonderful explanation.

I second Dubhthaigh's idea on #3. I came up with this idea since, as you all know, the global stock market is watering down and depreciation of currencies is raging. So it is a good idea to have a basic form of local currency so that Simcountry provides a more complete macroeconomic experience to its players.

As far as pegging is concerned, is it good to limit the exchange rate to a considerable range while allow players to try having float exchange rates? Simply a figure indicating the world standard will do. This 'world standard' may be set with reference to certain parameters which take into account, say, global export value, global total production value, factory utilization rate, etc. Then in this case the 'world standard' actually reflects the world economy.

I'm not an IT expert so perhaps it's a tedious process to evaluate all the possible risks and difficulties posed upon average players, let alone the time needed for computer programming. Hope there'd be more people joining our discussion.

Thanks for the explanation, Jonni.

The idea of a Central Bank in main country, for example, is that the entity will be responsible for government payments (Soldiers, Officers, doctors, nurses, etc.) and manage loans given to others, buy or sell country shares; also country spending by the government.

A central bank in each country could be the intermediary of government transactions with the global economy, without necessarily getting involved in the strictly private part of the economy have. Perhaps would not necessarily be a corporation, it may be an entity. Only one per country.

You're right about the diversity of currencies, it could be chaos.

I suggest further that on the main page of every country there is room for flag, seal and picture of the president. It could change the video window to another location, for example, with Simcountry tutorials.

It could be an option for the Spanish language. I know there are many Spanish-speakers players who do not understand well the English language, like me, and could be a way to attract new players.

Cheers!

Yes Volvo has raised very good ideas! English, Spanish and probably more languages may help attract players from different part of the world.

The simplest way to create central banks is to change the name of the "Loans" page of countries to "Central Bank."
