ian Cameron | Tuesday, June 17, 2014 - 02:48 pm I WANT MY TRAINS!!!!! In a more current matter though, I think the forums are a mess that surely needs cleaning. I suggest that all forums created before January 1st 2014 be deleted and the forums revamped with the "create new conversation button at the top. The forums are so cluttered and a lot of the conversations are of no use or interest to current players. Heck instead of deleting them make a archive folder with a sub folder for each topic and put the old topics in there. I think every January first this clean up should be performed to keep the forums clean and easier to go through. |
ian Cameron | Tuesday, June 17, 2014 - 02:51 pm And to prevent people from loosing forums created in the month of December or other forums that are still actively being spoken in *BY MORE THAN ONE PERSON* make it so the forums can't be used at the end of December to make it easier to get forums that have recent posts and keep them where they are. This might seem like a hassle but it would surly help smooth the forums, and giving it a little beauty might attract some more players, a lot of people are drawn to games by their forums now. |
ian Cameron | Tuesday, June 17, 2014 - 02:53 pm or delete all conversations that are 2 years or older. So 2013-2014 conversations stay, but 2008-2012 conversations get deleted. |

Alterd Carbon | Friday, June 20, 2014 - 06:35 am I agree i'm sick of checking what I might think is a new post just to find some weird crap posted by lenpeat or some other junk. |
James the Fair | Saturday, June 21, 2014 - 12:51 am What do mean by some other junk? do you mean like my suggestion posts? :P |
ian Cameron | Saturday, June 21, 2014 - 02:26 am suggestions that have been shot down by the gm or have been implemented or agreed to by the Gm |
Andy | Tuesday, June 24, 2014 - 05:21 pm We used to remove old forum posts but many requests by players, long time ago, convinced us to keep them. Trains are underway but you can see them yet as they are too far away. |
SirSmokesAlot | Wednesday, June 25, 2014 - 12:09 am old forum posts = the history of sim country. What they should do is create a page where the older forum posts go. That way you don't run into the older posts but they are still somewhere players can view them. |
Andy | Wednesday, June 25, 2014 - 02:27 pm This will create more pages and a more complex way of searching for something on the forums. I use the last day page and the last week page most of the time and I do not see much of the older messages. Discussions are also sorted by the last date a new contribution was added so that the new messages are closer to the top. where do you see a problem? |
SirSmokesAlot | Wednesday, June 25, 2014 - 09:58 pm I don't see any problems. I like the fact you keep the older posts. I just don't wanna see them deleted like ian suggested. |
Alterd Carbon | Thursday, June 26, 2014 - 12:26 am I agree with Smokes I don't want to see them go away. This game has been long running and our postes are our history might not matter to newer players but I do run through them occasionaly they also serve as a reference point. |
Brostoevski | Sunday, June 29, 2014 - 01:53 pm The standard practice for managing forums is to lock topics older than whatever you think is appropriate (like maybe 3 months or 6 months) and move them to an archive category. They should still exist so links to forum topics do not suffer decay, but not in a place where they clutter things up. Either the gamemaster does not agree with this practice, the gamemaster is unaware of this practice, or the technology used for these forums is so ancient that it would be an undue burden to do so (or linking would break which partially defeats the purpose). Then again, most forums have pages... so my guess is the last one. |
