shallom | Saturday, June 16, 2012 - 03:43 am trading on the stock market would be more profitable if it were possible to short sell stocks |
Drew | Saturday, June 16, 2012 - 06:25 pm Got to be careful with that, insider trading is already allowed, and the regulation is mostly ingame control logic a lot of cheating can occur. Plus who would be to take the broker role? Buying or selling stock for future values at the time of exchange someone has to be billed, and someone has to lose. Good thought just not sure if it's a good idea without direct supervision to ensure people aren't being screwed over by forcing stock prices up and down. |
shallom | Sunday, June 17, 2012 - 09:31 pm well simcountry could be the broker since all the stock trading flows buy them. and the main thing is with simcountry stock game is that thier is not a broad demand for stock most of the demand is by investment funds and is concentrated on corps with the lowest p/e ratio. so you can manipulate your share price all you want but if it doesn't reduce the p/e ratio then it doesn't matter. and the game makes it really hard to do that.so the game already limits a lot of cheating in making your p/e ratio more important than your share price. |
shallom | Monday, June 18, 2012 - 12:45 am lol i was in a rush so my grammar kinda sucked |
Marshal Ney | Monday, June 18, 2012 - 04:37 am Wouldn't there a be problem with the shares themselves? When you short sell, you borrow those shares from someone, sell them at market, planning on buying lower to replace them, and pocket the difference. There would have to be some kind of safeguard so those shares find their way home at the proper time. |
shallom | Monday, June 18, 2012 - 05:08 am well simcountry can keep a track of that, massive brokers in real life do that everyday |
Drew | Thursday, June 28, 2012 - 03:40 am Great counter to my post shallom. But I'm afraid it still won't work. The broker has to own the shares to be short sold. In order for it too work properly a lot of shares would have to be off limits for direct ownership as SC would have to own them. PE realy crushed my argument, but if I had to liquidate some ownership of my corps so you can short sell I'd properly quit the game furious. On another note referencing the real world as a comparison. A broker might purchase crazy amounts of shares for crazy amounts of money, but it doesn't really compare to the buying power of an entire countries universal mutual/hedge fund or the stregnth of some enterprises on the world. I've been using and have been very succesful using the share market since I started playing. Haven't really used investment fund too much sice I got my Enterprise but, I know buying volumes smaller than 1million wouldn't be worth anyone's time except for automated investment funds. Short selling would simply not be worth the time. Last time I did a share market sweep it took me an entire game month, it simply isn't worth the time, its easy enough to make money as it is. |
