As the subject says, What does "Retain Products" mean in the automation settings?

Does that mean to hold back all products from being sold, or does it mean to hold back any products that are meant for contracts, or does it mean to hold back the amounts needed for contracts?

I'm guessing that it means to hold back all products from being sold on the world market, since the automation center is supposedly used for times like when you go on vacation and so if I want to use the rest of the automation center Im guessing I'd want to uncheck all of those right?
