I have a country with over 10 per cent population in the over 80 category. How do I get them to move along faster or do I need to just let them die off whenever. My country is The Cuesta Solution on LU

thanks

Lower health index = more old people bite the dust.

The only idea I have is to lower your health index dramatically. While it's only theoretical to me, I'm assuming you'll lose a big chunk of population while large waves of older people die off when u do this but you'll be left with a younger population with a higher proportion of workers.

My health index is 253 right now. Is it worth lowering my health index and lowering my birth rate also ?

thanks

Your birth rate is probably more affected by the number of 18-40 year olds than by your health index.

If I was in your situation (and probably will within the next game century), I'd probably cut my health index down to around 100 - 120, live with the unemployment (and leave the nurses, doctors, and sr doctors as unemployed if at all possible), leave it like that for about a rl week or so (about 3 or 4 game years), and see what effect it's having on my population. I'm surmising that it should kill off a large part of the older population, and at the same time, increase the proportion of breeding age (and working) people to total population. At that point, I'd probably bring the health index back up.

While this is all theoretical to me, I can't think of any other way of handling the situation you find yourself in. If others have ideas (especially if they have practical implementation experience), I'm also interested in hearing their ideas, but lacking any other input, this is the route I'll probably go.

No other ideas here. You gotta make them die, and that means dropping health index some. Professional transfers can work for older but still employed people, but you can't move retired ones out that way.

It's a shame that we can't build Soylent Green factories. It'd definitely make the food category more interesting :d

Why not just convert a significant number of the hospitals to war hospitals or Special Clinics temporarily? That should drive the index down (I think) and you wouldn't have to rebuild them.

Just a guess pulled out from things. Plus, you'd be able to put a lot of the disabled back to work.

The disabled people are already being maximally rehabilitated in his country. However, it is true you could convert 20 hospitals a month (10 to Special Clinics, 10 to War Hospitals) instead of having to destroy them. It WOULD take quite a while, though, since he needs to go from around 3100 to about 1000 hospitals. However, the Health Index DOES move quite slowly, so it is an option at which to look.

Soylent Green factories would be more efficient, though. :)

If this game allowed one to truly be a dictator (which it does not) we would be able to arbitrarily exile or execute anyone over 65, or anyone who is a LLW, a doctor, etc., etc. I surmise that this feature is not offered for fear that sim-executions of sim-people would foster ill stereotypes among the players. But come on, they are only sim-citizens! They are different than you and I, they don't feel any pain (well, maybe sim-pain) ;)
Note: Let's lobby for a new worker class--lawyers. No one would regret their sim-demise and we could recruit from the sim-old and sim-infirm.

I wouldn't mind some constructive euthanasia programs myself. <_<

Daelin ~ Yeah, I didn't even look at the volume involved, at that point it'd be tedious, but it would save some money, maybe. Beat closing them all and then having to buy them again (plus Hospitals are still in shortage I think.)
