No matter what I do, I lose Medium Level Workers at a frightening rate every month, and I'm having to constantly convert trained professionals.

Is it something I'm doing? Is there any way I can stop the bleed?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light.

Are you purchasing a lot of weapons or corps?

Dorque (White Giant)

Nope. I actually sold some weapons recently, and I haven't built a corp in ages.

Your education system is running too hot. Turn priorities down a few notches. 117-119. This will give you more workers.

Ahh, that makes sense, Sam. I have about 130 education index and I'm running priorities at a full 120. I never even considered turning it down.

Many thanks!

Unfortunately corporation efficiency upgrades now cause an over demand of MLW now. It used to be HLW but W3C's implementation to "balance" worker levels just seamed to supply more HLW.

I have more MLW employed then LLW now. Lowering education priorities won't help really, because you will still have not enough MLW, plus back to work schools and special clinics basically produce more workforce without the need to decrease education priorities. Its a good idea to set low level managers priority to a higher level, then convert them to MLW its really the only way of dealing with routine worker imbalances.

ps If only there were a way to set priorities of workers, I wonder if anyone has suggested it *hint*.

Thats not very helpful John...we are not all seasoned players here, if fact being the help forum bit suggests the majority of question askers are needing to learn, of course with a liberal smattering of learned veterans willing to spend their time to enlighten us, thank you one and all. So why does the game not allow priorities for workers, a MLM or HLW implies education above LLW, or are we to presume that some people just have more natural talent (or better placed parents)?

Help forum is for H E L P, not for S U G G E S T I O N S. Much less stupid ones. Even less for ones that have already been explained.

I learnt this game on my own, by trial and mistake. I didn't go around asking for help. If *I* had something to gain from it, then *I* should do all the work.

So, you wish to know why? Look around or use your reason. After being around here for three years, you kinda get tired of repeating the same things time and time again.

pfft John you fool. The suggestion I'm referring to was passed by exclusive vote over a year ago and the GM said they were going to implement the suggestion. Besides ever think that you learn quicker by asking someone that possesses the knowledge instead of spending much more time find out the exact same information.

I appreciate everyone's help, and I'm sorry my thread is causing so much drama.

John, I'd really appreciate it if you'd calm down and ease off a bit.

To explain my position a little, I've played this game on and off for about six years now. In that time, I've learned how constantly SimCountry is changing, and that something I learned last time I played may well be totally be invalid today. I have a very busy life, and I don't really have the time to sift through endless posts and bulletins, and if a change has been made or a bug exists, often the best way to find out is to ask.

I don't approve of asking things without making some effort on my own. I made a few attempts to fix the problem myself, but was unable to plug the leak. At that point, rather than frustrate myself further, I asked - not demanded - if anyone could help me out.

I sincerely appreciate everyone's input who has taken the time and effort to reply, and I don't think those kind and helpful folks deserve the kind of negativity that's being levelled here - nor do I feel I deserve it. If you are that offended by my asking a question, you are more than free not to read my post on the help forums.

In any case, you're free to do whatever you want, but there's a little something to consider. I truly hope we won't have to go through this kind of negativity again. :)

Regards,

Dorque

The idiot strikes again.

And in four months - over a year, huh? - you couldn't keep your mouth shut, observe and reason what happened in the meantime, so that the suggestion wasn't implemented? Typical american-education-system product. Not that the result is much different around the globe.

In Simcountry or in Reality? Either way, the answer is "You are wrong."

One learns increasingly faster and far better when learning on his own. All he needs is the basic tools to begin with. Instead of focusing on the quality of these tools, you all think its much more fitting to slap him with the (incomplete) answer.

Give a man a fish and feed him for one day, teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime.

These are words of wisdom to be applied everywhere.

But lets approach this in another manner... The people who first started playing this game knew about as much as those who start playing it today: nothing. Given they were the first, who was there to help them? None but themselves and the only tools they had were:
* Their reason;
* The news;
* The help pop-ups, which were less than half of today;
* The game documentation, which was equally less.

What changed from then to now? W3C follow the same path that all western governments did during the XIX century: it became increasingly more interventionist. However, it proceeded inadequately...

Question is: How are you all any different from those who first played?

Another change happened two years ago, with none other but I begun answering every question posed on the forum. This continued for over a year. After I stopped, Calloe Wolf took my place and continued what I did, until an ulcer stroke him.
After Calloe Wolf and I, no one has been able to answer the questions posed on the forum to the same extend that we did.

In fact, several replies to the questions still asked here are echoes of the answers Calloe Wold and I wrote.

Before us, there still was Avalon, Genie and Tamara helping players, but they stopped helping as well. Along with that, you can say their knowledge and help was wasted, because an event happened in the game that caused a discontinuation of the chain started.

But here's an interesting question:
Why did I stop answering questions? Before I started answering questions, providing tips and helping other players establish in this game, notions that today are considered common knowledge among today's "experienced" players, they were almost unheard of. I wonder... I also wonder why all other veterans don't answer questions systematically. I also wonder why anyone would answer questions posed on this forum.
Well, what do you people reckon? Ever even wondered about this?

Dorque,
To ask someone that is calm to calm down is redundant. If you do not like the ways threads turn, the best you have to do is to grow a thicker skin.

I realize the need of a Help forum. I also realize why that need surfaces and the consequences that derive from satisfying in such and such manner. This, I doubt anyone is aware.

If I wasn't aware of the need of a Help Forum, I would have already closed it and delete all the threads within it. Something that is not needed and fails to create any need for it, or becomes obsolete is erased from existence, afterall.

This Help forum, however, is a workaround and not a solution. At some point in time, it will be deleted.

Sounds like Ranidan nonsense. Actually, semi-sense, which is worse in the way that middle-dickery is worse.

It only makes "semi-sense", because I only open half of the game.
The other half is for you to find out. :)

And part of the answer lies in why I wish that you find out the other half.

Careful gents - Mr. Laguna has the power to wield an IP ban!!!

He's not that bad really - apart from when he kicks you out of chat for ne reason whatsoever, but it's people like him that us newbies need to listen to.

I have been on here for about 3 months now, and John amongst others has helped me get started, and make my empire what it is today. Without him, and others like him - I would have probably given up on this game ages ago after my initial country went down the pan. Anyway - it didn't - and i'm still here.

Now stop it - or I will tell the teacher!!!

I apologize if that was too terse, John. I believe (if you are indeed Laguna, as I have no reason to doubt) that you and I actually used to get along quite well, the last time I was playing...

Anyway. I just don't like to see drama/fighting between other people occur as a result of something I've posted, I didn't recognize you, and I was trying to play peacemaker. My apologies again if that caused further offense.

After all, it's a game, and it's so much better when we all get along. :)

LOL, Stuart. I like keeping logs of IRC. The space they waste on my disk makes me wonder when I finally buy a 1TB hard drive to store all my porn...

Your post was fine, Dorque, all of them.

I was only slightly sarcastic with you with the "grow a thicker skin", to annoy you in the same manner you told me "to calm down" while I was calm. :p

I really don't mind discussing this or that with anyone, but they better be ready for some abrupt or mindless conversation. Whichever the mood strikes. :p

All is well, there's no need for apologies. I'm not one to take forum discussions into game war anyway.

Ah, and yes, I am indeed Laguna Loire. What was your name when we first met?

Oh, and welcome back to Simcountry. =P

Dorque,

You may have is a population bubble, especially if you have bought much population. Buying population can foul up the age demographics. Study through the population page.

Some things to look for:
1. falling birth rate
2. rising death rate
3. rising number of retirees
4. "hollow classes" - age ranges that are significantly smaller than those around it.

Hope that helps.

Adam
