| Wednesday, January 28, 2009 - 07:42 pm The Melian Dialogue from Thucydides is good reading and relevant to relations between powerful and weaker groups. The Melians did not submit but they also did not attempt to shout down the Athenian delegates. Nor did they resort to insults. In the real world I walk around my ghetto neighborhood without fear. I frequently travel by foot in the wee hours of the morning. In daylight I often pick up metal objects to take to the recycling center or reuse. Finding pistol shell casings didn't surprise me but the spent high powered rifle shell did. My contacts with other pedestrians have either been friendly, attempts to sell drugs (also friendly), and requests for change. Most pedestrians don't talk. The only hostility I have received here was politically related and came from someone who did not like the sign I was transporting. He also didn't sound like someone from the area. [Accents change in and out of U.S. Cities more than by region] If I roamed into a nearby alley and announced to the group of men wasting time that they had "no business dominating this alley" and that I would "show them who iz boss" it would not go over well. The reason I am not in danger where I live is because I do not cause problems and don't have much worth taking. When I go out at 3 A.M. I dress like someone who has nothing. Since I don't expect to piss anyone off I don't need to worry. Confidence also deters most of the dangers that an inner city presents. I have a good sense of statistics and I am quite confident that reasonable young Pedestrians in any city on the east coast are far more likely to get run over than die by any other cause. I believe the alleys in my neighborhood are actually safer than the streets. If King Heze came to town and decided to set up his market on the interstate he would most likely get mauled quickly. Not because teamsters are asshats but because truck drivers don't expect pedestrians on the asphalt. If Heze survived the first few minutes, teamsters and other drivers would start getting mad and make some calls to have him removed. Anytime you get in the way of a large group and refuse to do things that they consider normal you should expect some sort of hostile response. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from attempting a critical mass or reclaiming the road. Just don't go into it expecting that a group of Americans will all hop out of the vehicles and gladly become pedestrians.

That in no way suggests that Tattooed Priest ever endorsed the recent activities of Heze or wendy. I think Grayson should be able to lead a group that calls itself the NLUO. The common market members did nothing to support Heze. When Heze and Wendy declared war on SNA the leaders of SNA assumed that NLUO was declaring war on SNA. Heze and Wendy can have a secret vote that only they count and then make up any results they choose. Every time there is some sort of vote that is transparent Hezekiah is overwhelmingly defeated. All the available evidence suggests Hezekiah is alone. Grayson, Shane Vataja, King Asia, and Schyzy are the only known supporters of NLUO based on forum activity. Two of you immediately tried to negotiate and avoid the war. Schyzy is known to support any war there is no need for a cause. King Asia accused SNA of Bullying. That implies that if he thought it through he also would be firmly opposed to declaring war on large federations. There is no reason to prevent Grayson and Shane from moving forward with NLUO. There is no need to negotiate with SNA. Just inform them that you are not a threat and do not intend to attack any SNA countries or friends. And also that the system you are setting up will not automatically cause a conflict. [I am not an SNA representative and I do not speak for SNA. I claim my conclusions are obvious from forum posts and in-game action.] SNA has no reason to waste ammunition. There are plenty of wealthy inactives with large populations on LU.

Grayson first joined SNA nearly two months ago. He is a reasonable and friendly person who wishes to play the game in peace. He also wanted to continue reaching out to King Hezekiah and the NLUO. Shane Vataja, is also a very nice guy who I have chatted with several times in the past. I feel as though many players have been roped into the NLUO/SOL by vast promises of riches and success - only to find incompetence and ruin. Shane, through no fault of his own, has been losing assets and has been unable to grow because of the war mongrel leadership of the NLUO. He has chosen to leave the NLUO and SNA has reached out to him with an offer of membership.

As near as I can tell your primary purpose here (on SimCountry in general, not just on LU) is to try to destroy what other people have built. You aren't trying to build an economy or an empire yourself that I can tell, and I've looked. Granted certainly it's your right to play the game the way you want, since you pay for it ... but seriously, I'm not getting it. Now, here is the Wendy, we know and love. She has her main boycotted, between that and the slaves that in her bomb shelled empire, in month "profits," she is loosing over a T of game cash a day. She is also gaining at least that much more debt a day in war repairs. She has one slave left untouched by war, but we are just waiting for the war decs to kick in on that one. by this time tomorrow, the only military that she'll have left, other than nuke weapons, will be a 1.7m reserve in her main... she has 6 magor players with open war decs against her, and what does she do? she decs on a peaceful econ player, "hoping" to be able to get off atleast one nuke? additionally, she's in an fed, (nluo/sol,) that was completely defeated in war, in less than an hour, had its common market taken from them. this fed is notorious, for not keeping peace agreements, and even went to the degree of putting on trial the only peaceful voice amoung them... honestly, yes, wendy's only goal in sc is to destroy it. she has removed any motivation for any one, ever to be peaceful, i mean you can just keep fighting until you win... that is why we are doing what we are doing. it is no easy feat, and not taken lightly... but we myself and the others bombing wendy daily, want to return this game back to a game of skill

I saw the beginning of Wendy as a player, went away for a while, and came back to more of the same thing. You never, from when I first encountered you on the game, were trying to build and learn; you came into the game and immediately started deliberately making enemies. You don't strike me as a stupid person, so there's no way it was accidental. And yes, I'm really that curious, so I'll ask again. Can you actually be getting that much enjoyment out of trying to destroy what other people have worked hard to build?

But this seems to have spiraled out of control into a tit for tat conflict. It is what it is now. What can I say. I will just continue playing. Leaders of federations in conflict should weigh the fact that I will act the way I do when approaching conflict with me. I happen to like many of the players on the opposite teams. This may seem to not reflect in forum exchanges, but when its all said and done here, I hold nothing personal. I just will go as hard as any other when playing, there shouldn't be anything wrong with that.
