What happened to the mobiles market? There isn't much there anymore.

I have a few docks full of mobiles for sale. Is there an item you are looking for?

Not particularly. The station looks dead compared to a few months ago.

I think about 95% of the stations are dead enough to resemble the inside of the Event Horizon ship. (good movie for those who are familiar with it).

More like terrifying.. but yeah kinda sad about the market situation. Maybe if the space stations products could be traded beyond just the name your price GC currency, and allow SC to be used also? There are price controls, "caps" on each world to keep the markets from crashing. I know, not realistic, but it keeps the engine going without global crisis.

However, the space stations are partitioned from the five world markets, maybe it could be a pure market function on there, really name your price, really see what products could be worth. We see it with GC on there, maybe SC could be used that way to, might make it more attractive...

And GC renting or buying of ports should be dedicated to storage, otherwise the only requirement to get to trade is to at least have shuttles to get your products back and forth.

The price of mobiles has skyrocketed.

They used to come at sub 5gc... now... well... see for yourself.

I too am waiting for a influx of low priced mobiles... the gc to use them on is stacking up... :(

Kind of wish we can just "skip" the GC step and go from paying real USD for membership fees then buy, trade, extend entities, etc all with SimCash.

Move away from Brenton Woods System to purely Fiat currency ;)

The questions of whether the exclusive use of gold coins in space is a limiting factor in space trades is an interesting one. The way I look at it is to compare the gold coins costs in space to what the player market values a gold coins at in SC$. Given that I sell electric power, per coin, in amounts that would readily earn me $180 billion in the game, that seems to be a fair estimation of player value of a coin.

Looking at space prices, you would have to ask yourself:

1. Would you pay $2.16T for 25 nuclear missiles instead of 12 coins (the cheapest price currently offered in space)?

2. $360 Billion for 25 stealth bombers instead of 2 coins?

3. $1.53 Trillion for a mobile interceptor wing instead of 8.5 coins?

Currently, it seems the smartest thing to do is to complete these calculations for yourself and figure the smartest use of your coins. If you have the cash, you can make many of these items on your own. If you have an abundance of cash, you could become a seller. Newer players who have a bunch of game level and war level awards ahead of them and often find an easy path to ranking awards, having no score penalty, are often much more flush with coins than cash and are natural customers of the space market.

My analysis is that the currency does not have to be much of a barrier. A bigger barrier, in my view, is the cost of being in space in the first place. I think docks should cost 100 coins, instead of 200, and all current owners should be refunded the other 100. Those prices seem more in-line with the utility of space.

As to the price of mobile units specifically, the lower prices seen months ago were driven by sell-offs of long-ago produced stocks. Some accounts changed hands and some assets were gained with the conquering of other player assets. New owners of these assets, looking to gain quick coins, sold some of these assets below the costs of assembling new units (indeed, I was sometimes a buyer of these). The prices you see now reflect a similar cost of producing a new unit, weapons/ammo/upgrades.

Your explanation on the mobile price increases make sense, my guess is the recent low cost of mobiles was more of a "fluke" due to recent events, bigger players leaving, and restructuring, etc.
The 200GC cost of one space port is a big turn off to, I've thus far only leased and on a one time need to basis.

Given the current exchange rate of simcash per GC, (GM or power purchased) it does seem to bring down the cost of a mobile, at least by my "guesstimate". But GC are harder to come by, which i save for extensions. But that's my method anyway.

Aside from all of that, which should be dealt with somehow, there is also the other question of why would we have a space station selling something like beans n' cornbread. (Tosh.o Nod) but my point being, there are stations for all intents and purposes derelict because who really wants to trade basics such as beans or cattle feed for GC?

Perhaps the mobiles trade, being so closely tied to the hard work and the initial need to invest in professionals with GC, probably should remain at a GC standard.

Other products...? well, maybe someone knows something I don't.

You are right that some space centers sell items that don't make sense for player trade. Only 3-4 space stations see trade of any significance and are focused on products with production limitations.

Gold coins are not that hard to come by than most think but do require some planning and effort. Remember that game and war level awards are available on each world. Players that limit play to few worlds need to consider steps to long term production of large amounts of SC$. Vary large countries are the key to this and are achievable as recent guides on the Beginner's forum show a path. With large amounts of cash comes the possibility of producing items for space or direct trade to obtain coins.
