Dafydd Lewis | Saturday, April 26, 2014 - 04:54 pm Just an idea for speculation, I currently hold an empire of 5 countries. In theory it would be possible to achieve a planned economy so that the means of production and consumption are contained within the border. However, can this be achieved? and if not why? |
chris | Saturday, April 26, 2014 - 05:48 pm It can be achieved, a population of over 100M (maybe 150M) is required to have corps be profitable and do it, and because selenium is exclusive to WG you technically have to do it there. But numbers wise, it is possible. |
craigwilliamson79 | Friday, May 2, 2014 - 05:52 pm Well, I've not tried it, but I know that several large scale empires have tried for self sufficiency between countries and an enterprise. It always failed. Someone, once upon a time (perhaps it was Laguna) posted detailed theory as to why this is. It was basically something to do with the game mechanics where the required resources would always exceed the produced resources. |
drys0013 | Saturday, May 3, 2014 - 10:25 am I would say the answer is No not at 100%. it reeks of complications and problems that would never equal out to 100%. as chris said, to be profitable, but one has to take into account for every corp added there is an opposite void to fill the corps supplies. the numbers change with upgrading and such. but you can never achieve 100% and that goes for common markets as well. i think your 150 M is off. depending on game play and countries setup if defense is a part or not would make the number higher. so add defense into it and the number of corps it would take to supply all the needs and future growth needs. craig, the detailed theory you speak, i seem to agree with it in that point of view, but one can over produce hoard and use the enterprise to generate the goods needed to do it, but like I said you would be time consumed by it. constant manual transfers and if the contract is made via the corp it acts as if it is a international contract and would make it seem as if your we're trading internationally, but not really. I leave it at my best guess is 90% you could without defense, but the game is set up to have the need for the international market and you'll never get it 100%. wait till a game update that changes the whole setup. try to chase that one problem down and fix it. Not worth trying for 100% self sufficient. There are better more time efficient ways to make profit and fix the little ups and downs of corps supplies and such. even in a large CM, you still are hard pressed to get 95% supplied and it kinda proves the point that its the best method to use as an efficient and less time consuming way to supply yourself. That is considering the CM built what it needed or oversupplied all the needs. Imagine the time it would take just to work out the math on that one as a group vs individual undertaking and you still come up short somewhere. I have experimented with this on a CM level and it never works out to try to do it, organize it, or build, since like i said every corp makes another void, complicates the math and plan more. The CM experiment ends with tired of wasting time tracking down the problems and still we need more supplies that we must build to supply. Its imperfect and you cannot find perfect out of it. maybe, the only way to achieve it would be to oversupply everything and still have plenty to sale to the market, still makes for a very large pop base, which again complicates the math more. more pop, the numbers change. the numbers are never fixed and vary too much to still achieve. I hate being pessimistic but its a 0.01% chance of success and that is only because I think everything is possible, but not probable. Good luck if you try it. I think you will just burn out on the game and fade away if you try it. I hope there is enough reason for why I say no. WE ended up after 3 real mos saying its not worth it as a CM group and used our time to make more profit to offset the rest. |
maclean | Saturday, May 3, 2014 - 01:29 pm I have tried it, and in the final analysis, it doesn't work. My empire on KB is 10 countries, and I had to give it up as a lost cause after about 3 months, as was mentioned earlier. If you figure out a formula to make it work profitably, tho, let me know. I am always eager to learn. |
