It is with a heavy heart that the Kingdom of Batavia announces the Death of its King, His Most Imperial Majesty, Matthew I, First of his name, Son of Phillip I, Cousin to Monty; Guardian of the faith and Breaker of Chains; Bastion of Peace and Prosperity. Royal Sovereign and Protector of Batavia, her Dominions and Colonies.
By allowing our enemies to grow strong while we attempt Diplomacy; we opened ourselves to attack. By allowing cowards to make idle threats without actions; we sinned. By allowing the blood of the unbelievers to go un-spilled, we sinned.
Because of this Sin, the Old Ones sent a clear message in dreams and whispers. The laughing never ceased, and Matthew I was no more. We have learned, and now embrace the joyous caress of our nameless Gods.
As a sign of their goodwill and our continuing Alliance, a new flag representing the New Batavia in her servitude to the Gods has been gifted from the Holy Emperor himself. His most Holy Majesty, Matthew II, Second of his name, Brother to Monty, Servant to the Old Gods; Bane of the unbeliever, Head of the Inquisition. Vanquisher of Heresy; Bastion of the faith and Scourge to alts. Royal Sovereign and Protector of Batavia, her Dominions and Colonies received the gift directly from the Imperial Court itself and couldn't have been more pleased.
Before his last breath, Matthew I foretold this from the sombrero-headed God:

You Shall burn the heretic, kill the mutant, purge the unclean.
You Shall surrender your will to the Old Ones. |

War's been talked of, war's been threatened, and now war is here. There have been opportunities for de-escalation, but the recent massive buildup of African Union military forces to attack The Syndicate has gotten to a stage where it must be addressed.
The Syndicate declares war to remove these openly hostile, outpost nations of the African Union from within striking range of its core empires. |

This deeply disturbing news reaches me late. King Matthew I will be sorely missed, but thankfully for the citizens of the Kingdom of Batavia, Matthew II has been groomed to fill the void.
While I and my citizens have been skeptical regarding the existence of these gods, we have, after receiving this fateful tale, decided to dedicate ourselves to examine the validity of their being.
