If you bomb the target, you give the defending AA guns the ability to shoot the whole time, whereas if you hit the defences first, you'll kill them early. You'll use more bombs, though. I did a test at WL2, bomber wing quality about 270. 3 corps killed defences-first cost me 5 bombers and 682 bombs. Killing them target-first cost me 24 bombers and 263 bombs. Financially, the extra 419 bombs costs $3.16B, whereas the extra 19 bombers cost $3.27B(at base market price, not adjusted for quality) - given that I use higher-quality weapons than ammo, this means defences-first is both a fair bit cheaper(more than it looks above) and it imposes less annoyance on your wings. |
