Váli (Fearless Blue) | Sunday, November 2, 2008 - 12:52 am In the past people have suggested merging captured land into the attacking players country, to create a super country. I think to some extent this is a good idea. Obviously you cant have limitless counties as it would ruin the game. I think you should be able to merge hole or parts of countries into your country as long as you do not go over the 100 million population limit. Real world examples. Gibralter was captured from spain by the british hundreds of years ago and to this day the people of gibralter do not want to rejoin spain. Hong Kong, this was rented to britain for 100 years. These small land grabs would add a startegic element to the game, without having to capture c3s everywhere. If these are well run like gibralter they could stay in the merged country indefinetly. If they are not as well run as the parent coutry they could rejoin their original coutry. As for whole coutries the union of scotland and england. Although still recognised as individual countries they are run by the same government. |

Váli (Fearless Blue) | Sunday, November 2, 2008 - 01:40 am Take a look at the borders of any continental coutry, virtually without exception their borders have changed overtime. A country is an idea not a physical reality. Poland has moved all over the place in its history. |

Váli (Fearless Blue) | Sunday, November 2, 2008 - 01:35 pm Mircostates? Any coutry worthy of mention as had changing borders. Look at the former yugoslavia. A country built of multiple states which is now getting broken up into smaller and smaller states. These smaller states did make up one unified country. For game play you could break larger countries into constitutive states which then could be occupied individually. Russia sold alaska to the US. The UK allows the US a military base on diego garcia, evicting the locals in the process. Spain has small enclaves in Morocco. The idea of a country controlling a smaller region of another country (lack of islands in game)is a historical reality. Hong Kong basically served as a Naval base for the british navy. Allowing players to occupy a small piece of land in order to create a base of operation would be a realistic addition. It would create a good strategic element to the game. Having to occupy a c3 is a bit wasteful. You could impose a limit to the number of colonies a coutry could have, either an absolute number, or by increasing costs and chance of rebellion as happens with countries now. |
