Happy new year to everyone!

This update is now done on KB only.
It will be deployed on the other worlds in the coming hours.

Casualties in war(already updated several days ago)

The number of casualties in wars is increased, both the number of dead and the number of wounded people. the number depends on the damage to the target, by nuclear or non nuclear weapons.
Nuclear weapons frequently destroy a city in one single strike. The casualties are then larger than after most non nuclear attacks.

Common markets

An error in the common market pages, similar to the one in federations, is now fixed.
When you look into the details of a certain common market, you get the correct data.

Corporate profits

Most corporations will see their profits increase.
The profit depends on market prices for products, and for natural resources, but on average, the profits will increase a bit.
this includes natural resources corporations that are now producing slightly more than before.

Defensive Weapons Range

The range of defense helicopters and defensive missiles is now increased and documented.
Before, these weapons were always effective, due to an exception in the software, independent of the distance but the documents were not showing the correct data.

The code is not changed but will never be activated because the range will always be sufficient.

In time, we would like to reduce the range of defense helicopters. It is long term, will be announce ahead of time and will be very gradual.

Population

We expect population rates to rise a bit. Declines in countries with many people may continue due to smaller numbers in the lower age groups. This will stabilize in time.

Cost of Government (This too is several days old)

The general cost of government is declining in empires. it declines more in small empires, up to 9 countries but also in larger ones.

C3 countries

C3 countries are reset from time to time to move them back to the standard start conditions for new players.

Many of these C3 countries have in fact too many corporations and after the reset, the population is unable to sustain them, resulting an many corporation running at small hiring and production percentages.

This is not helpful for beginners. It is impossible for them to understand what happens, corporations close, they suffer losses.

We are now closing more corporations when these countries are reset.
We want them to be able to run the remaining corporations at 100% and make profits (independent of the beginners support features).

The changes are now in place and we will observe how c3 countries look after a reset. It is hard to predict, it depends also on non state corporations that are not being closed.

Hints

We have added many hints and completed the description of others.
we are also updating existing ones, there are many, to be shorter.
Nobody reads more than three words....

Andy,

Something else I've discovered, that apparently is experienced by everyone..

Education Priorities.

Even though we turn OFF education help, our education priorities keep being changed by the game. It's really screwing things up with our countries. I have states that the game keeps changing the educational priorities (WITH AUTO SETTINGS TURNED OFF) that keep assigning higher priorities to professionals that are plentiful, and it's setting zero to my high tech staff that have no unemployed professionals.

Is there anyway for your guys to fix this too? It is extremely frustrating.

I will look into it.
I experienced the same but my game level was 3.

at game level 4 is should not do so unless you are nearly bankrupt, or did not login for a very long time. (weeks).

Andy,

Has there been any change to the procedure for emergency demotions? When there is a shortage of unemployed uneducated workers.
Several players have had problems recently, with this causing shortages of High Tech Engineers, Nurses, and Senior Doctors.
Additionally, the demotions seem to be kicking in earlier, and demoting larger numbers of educated workers, than they did in the past.

Thank you for the updates, and keeping us informed.

Daniel, so there is a system that's causing those issues for me. I have repeatedly had barely 100,000 shortage of low level workers and then suddenly a 3,000,000 surplus and massive shortages of the Dr's, Nurses, and High Tech Engineers,

hogdpodg5490,

Yes, a lot of players are experiencing it at the moment.

Basically, over education would cause mass unemployment.
So, the game demotes educated professionals, into low level workers, when there aren't enough unemployed low level workers.

This feature has been in place for a long time.
However, recently it has become much more powerful. Triggering more easily, and demoting far more workers, than it did before.

The problem with this feature, is that it likes to demote High Tech Engineers, Nurses, and Senior Doctors. More than other worker types.
This causes, Corporations to reduce hiring, due to shortages of High Tech Engineers.
Hospitals to close, due to shortages of Nurses and/or Senior Doctors.
And excessive unemployment among low level workers.

Until we get the GMs to fix this problem.
Players have to work around it, by making sure they always have lots of unemployed low level workers.
This prevents the demotions from triggering, and causing the disruption to your workforce.

I had several such comments.
it happens if there are major shortages in LLWs but what I see now is better balanced than for a very long time.

Is this ongoing?

we did not make changes recently. It is triggered automatically.
shifts should be small corrections.

I will check the logs.

This is still happening. I have never gone to massive shortages of LLW, I was able to correct all shortages with one change of professionals at the normal limit every few game months. Then suddenly the system demotes 3,000,000. I had at most a 100,000 shortage.

It has done this twice now and instead of fixing anything I end up with massive shortages of professionals. I would be maybe 100,000 short of LLW then suddenly I am 600,000 short of high tech engineers and 3,000,000 unemployed LLW's.

I have never had this mechanic hit me before, I have always manually kept up with any LLW shortages, the past couple weeks its hit repeatedly in several of my nations.

This is requiring me to shut down many corps and deal with constant massive under-staffing.

Also, the country is still ordering weapons when the auto feature is turned off.

Andy,

The demotions are much more problematic than they used to be. I used to be able to maintain total unemployment of 2,000,000 without experiencing sudden demotions. Now I need to keep at least 3,000,000 unemployed to prevent it.

Additionally, the demotions are larger than they used to be. Previously, the demotions were small enough, that they could be taken from unemployed professionals, without causing significant shortages. Now, if the feature triggers a large demotion, I lose hospitals, and have disruption to production, until High Tech Engineers can be retrained.

At the very least, a safeguard needs to be put in place, to make sure that the feature only demotes unemployed professionals. It is destructive to demote professionals that are already working in vital jobs.

I just noticed my nation the Sixth Kingdom of Hodg on White Giant had massive demotions. I had 250,000 unemployed LLW's, and no demand for more but it still demoted over 1,000,000 skilled workers.

hodgpodg5490, Andy,

This is exactly what I am talking about. All hodgpodg's Corporations were able to be fully staffed, until the system demoted roughly 1,000,000 people, in a single hit.

The feature is important to prevent uneducated worker shortages. It just demotes to many people, without regard for if that is going to cause an even larger shortage of skilled workers.

Demoting ~1,000,000 workers, because unemployed low level workers dropped slightly below 250,000 for one game month, is overkill. Do them in smaller lots, for example 450,000 at a time, if there is still a shortage, do it again the next game month. And only let the system demote unemployed people, so it doesn't cause skilled worker shortages.

I'm not missing LLW. I'm missing MLW. I have several countries where the LLW unemployed is in the millions, far more than I need yet I have next to none unemployed MLW. It hit yesterday after the update. One month everything was manageable then wham. Millions suddenly became unemployed and as far as I can tell none of the LLWs are planning to move up to MLW to fill the void as it has been 24 hrs almost at this point. And I have pretty good education levels.

In at least one country I have more unemployed LLWs than are missing from all the worker groups combined (including LLW) in at least 2 countries. It's rather brutal.

I have noticed that as well Winderian, I have shortages of MLW. And now that the game took all my skilled workers and forced them into LLW I do not have anyone to manually demote to MLW. This is also stealing many of my hospitals, as it keeps taking more medical employees than I can afford to offer.

This is serious bug. please investigate this ASAP.

Some function is taking specialists from schools, hospitals, universities and that is closing them down. Level of low workers are increasing with no point. This is causing massive damage to the countries and needs to be addressed ASAP.

Damage is already done to many many countries.

Thank you for adding the graphs. This bug is very annoying, I've almost got my countries re balanced but now I'm afraid I'll be hit again.

This happened again in two of my countries. The graphs look like the one posted by his lordship only with different numbers.

It shows a small change one month, which would have been fine, followed by the huge change that wipes out my teachers and hospital staff.

GM, please fix this or give us the ability to convert more people a month.
