Where is everyone for crying out loud.

The forums are dry, the chat is non existent. There's no wars, no banter, nothing.

I feel as if I've wasted $34 on this game for 9 months sub.

What the hell happened... Do the SC owners not know how to promote this game?

The owners seriously need to consider dumping some money into advertising. I mean look at civony when it first started, a browser game, well advertised on every level, and blew up with millions of players. People, including me, were paying some money here and there to help ourselves out in bad times... sure you can do that here, but with WHAT player base? 100?!

This game has the potential to be in the thousands / hundreds of thousands for players, but nothing is being done about it.

Why?!

*cries*

LOL when I clicked it all went into code. Remember we play a game.
Nothing in life is free.
I pay to play.
U calling me a mug?

Edit...I am drunk and had a night of hell. I should not come across so aggressive. But if you had seen how far the programme has come you would not begrudge pounds to be involved.

Edit. U wanna play a game? Declare war on Me. I will give you a ride of your life

I'll ignore the vast majority of that except the begrudging pounds.

I've played on an off for quite a while, but I've never seen the game so quiet.

In terms of how far the program has come, great, if it's been improved. However, that has nothing to do with my current question, which i'll state again....

Where is everyone? Why are more and more people not signing up to play this game?

Surely i can't be the only one thinking this?

You're right, there does need to be a big influx of players through advertising.

I'm not sure the devs can or will do that until they feel the UI (and to some extent gameplay) is modern & correct and can retain those customers in the long term though, which is ultimately what makes the investment worthwhile.

Unfortunately I suspect the team is small and getting the game to that stage is probably not much quicker than the rate at which other online games keep updating and redefining their user experiences. Simcountry has a unique and exceptional model, but in other areas - which are often the ones that generate community - it's always playing catch-up,

Wouldn't be holding your breath, but perhaps we as players should try our best to help out with the advertising front?

I agree with what you're saying 100% Dub.

In terms of self advertising, i had done that when i last played, and could only muster around 6 players to join.

They aren't interested due to lack of players.

One of the friends did give me a great idea to put forward to the devs...

Why not pay a fee to a youtube channel with a good few million subcribers for them to advertise the game for a few weeks.

Surely that would raise awareness?

A hundred times yes :-) But I guess the drawback is that the commentary has no guarantee of being positive, and the best youtube game videos seem to rely either on action-packed gameplay or playing within a vibrant community. They'd have to identify the perfect channel and youtuber.

Imagine how a noob must feel, once he/she clicks on the forum and see this lol.

SC is a failed product!

There is no hope for the future!

It barely had a playerbase left after the 2006 era, and what did they do? Remove a strong element from the game, that perhaps made people cool enough to stick around and spend $34 while tolerating a decaying product for long as they did.

Btw i'm selling my empires or single countries on several worlds, 100gc weapons may be included i don't care to check... let me know if interested :)

The game doesn't have a marketing problem. It has a problem retaining players. Almost everyone quits sooner than later. Most of us prefer to play Paradox Interactive's simulation games, watch Netflix, and participate in discussions on ZeroHedge.

This game is still amusing but not for continuous playing. Some of us play for a few months, then come back another year.

I've played this game on and off as well. I've always seen huge potential in the game. I think I'll stay a bit longer for this time since I'm starting to understand things better and I'm older. I think it's a few simple things that truly show the modern day "gamer"

First off, I'm not a PC gamer so I wouldn't understand the player base here if most are PC gamers, but what I do understand is that most people simply do not give the learning curve a chance. I see so many people in the forums constantly asking questions which 99% are very easy to understand and correct. I love this game. I've only been playing it for a month and I'm on it all day when I'm home multi-tasking.

I'm always talking about it with my best friends on xbox live and in real life. Most of them don't even give the game a chance. I try explaining just a very few aspects of the game and they get scared saying it's too hard. Seriously? It's mostly common sense. In my opinion this is the most closely realistic game to a modern day empire game. Paying a few every 9 months is fine by me.

People also believe it's a pay to win. I don't believe this. My empire grew very quickly within 1 month of playing only paying for the membership plus a low 30gc. If you play your cards right, you don't need to pay anything. Other than if you run out of rewards and need to pay for extra empires.

It is sad though. If the community was bigger the gold trade would be much more efficient. I'm scared to go on FB not for the war, but for trading weapons for gc. I'm afraid I won't sell my weapons on space trade if people don't buy. There are a lot of people who don't even know this game exists who'd make amazing leaders, it's sad to see lack of advertising. I'm not a fan of being free labor, but I really do like this game and I'll advertise it anyway I can. If only I kept doing youtube. I had thousands of subs but that was long ago and I deleted it. I'd love to make vids explaining this game. There needs to be more vids on youtube...

I already have a few friends who're interested, but the questions come in so much, every little aspect. It seems the community is still very helpful. I wouldn't be where I am now without the wisdom of the community. If any noobies do read this, don't hesitate to ask questions because most people will answer you. Heck I'm still a big noob.

Social interaction is the main problem I think. Most of the new guys just aimlessly building their military early and making the wrong corps going bankrupt, getting frustrated and quitting. It's not even our fault, I think they're just scared to be judged. I expected a harsh welcome but I got a warm one, and that welcome by itself made me stay. The community is pretty nice from what I see on the surface, I just think we should be even more friendly. Maybe if the noobs find a few experienced friends who they can rely on for help, they'll stay.

I'd hope one day someone on here manages to gain a lot of followers on some social media site and decides to do a thorough review of the game. Just adding 100 dedicated players who have ambitions will make the game much more interesting.

With that being said, if any new players reading this need questions message me and I'll try to help. I'm still a noob to though, but I think I know enough to help other fellow noobs.

I guess my opinion will change over the months and I'll think like you more experienced players, I hope I find this game interesting within a few months, still.

PS: I'm a product of the community, I wouldn't have stayed if it wasn't for the warm welcome and help from others.

Hey SunnyKnight. Sorry Bro. I was on the rocks. Whiskey and scrapping does that to me lol.
Ok. I'm wondering if the main problem is This is a simulation of the world. Yet there is nothing outside our countries that cause us to unite or divide.
Maybe we could have zones. When we come to the war world (FB) we choose which zone we want to fight for.
The closer you are to the border the more chance of war. The further into your zone the more chance of economics?
Each zone is a fed and an economy in its own right.

Edit...Each zone always stays the same size. When a combatant country has been defeated it returns to a C3, weakening the zones defences.

Edit....I think our community has also changed from back in the day. Robbing for fun, I think, has become frowned upon. And as we are all friends why war? Why not wait for a real enemy to destroy our economies on?

Edit....The only reason we have so much war on the Earth is because its economically beneficial to our Masters.

BlackEyes

Robbing for fun is DEFINITELY a lost art form in Simcountry :(

NIx, "Why war if we're all friends" reveals a very critical understanding on the state of affairs around here.

Tbh i miss late nite raids 20/40 intense raids for cash that never really lasted anyways. But it offered a fun element to SC, and helped me blow off steam an perhaps even prevented evil thoughts from coming into my head pitting me against cool people who just enjoy relaxing an playing based on their time & style.

Now you're forced to go up in war levels after several "raids" or simply remain at Wl3 only for population control.

So again Nix is right, on Earth it's economically beneficial to wage wars.
Those rules which govern us inside the real world, do not apply here at SimCountry...

UTOPIA has finally been achieved \o/

I miss $imCountry :(

No worries Wrath. Happens. I guess... DRUNK FOOL! xD

My previous account was from 2007, then i had another at 2011 and now again in 2015 (don't know why i return every 4 years, oooooo spooky).

Blackeyes, don't leave! I'll kill you if you do, not that i could, because you won't be here, but i'll kill you! We need to retain vets. I do remember constantly reading about raids / wars / failed wars that went on back in 2007 onwards, and it was for that specific reason that i became a war player (but on KB, can't really call myself that, but i do. I'm not as good as the FB players).

However, i'm unsure what strong element they removed from 2006? Was it that substantial? What was the element?

Zen - NOOOOB! (Jokes). You mentioned not being a PC gamer, and yes SC does have an app, but it works as much as dog poop is useful to eat. If they sorted out the app on the mobile devices, people at home, work, wherever could manage attacks on ipads, iphones, andriod devices etc etc opening up a whole new world for the community. Imagine advertising it on the Play Store for crying out loud, for lets say $100 a month. Sounds a lot, maybe it is, but what you get in return could be tenfold!

You mentioned Pay to win, i used to believe that, until they did the nifty trick with direct trading (removing the cash option). Back then, we could just pay $$ for Trillions. Yes, i did this a few times. Going straight into the war game isn't a good idea, so i needed bailing. Now however, i do not believe it's pay to win.

I think that SC needs to have a set tutorial / scheme whereas players have to build a solid economy prior to starting off military engages with other countries. This would help them understand the economical side of things. They could then do a tutorial / a scheme where you would be taught how to go about attacking c3s. etc etc

Typing like a monkey on crack at the moment.

Wrath - i do like that idea of zones, but again, without having a strong player base, or SC themselves investing $$$$ in the development / advertising side of the game, they won't be able to put forward our ideas.

See, we, the SC community have so many decent ideas, i just don't see it happening though without a lump sum of investment. Even sorting the IOS & Andriod app alongside $$$$ or $$$$$ in advertising would open up hundreds of thousands of potential players who MAY even pay £1 ($1.50) for the game! Imagine they pay for the game, it's free for them until level... lets say... GL4 (as they paid for it (i dunno, just make them feel happy)) and then they have to buy a sub. EVEN THAT, would bring in high revenue.

I dunno, maybe i should just buy out SC and invest lol

Sunny, as to your original question. No, it is never a mistake to come back to Simcountry. The game has a special lure/quality that keeps you forever drawn. I happen to think it is the people who play the game that make it and the challenge the game itself offers. For the most part, everyone here is great. I've run into a few that I didn't mesh well with, but some times it is hard to separate the "persona" from who the real person is. Therefore, I just love everyone. This game truly has some of the sharpest and most talented minds I've ever seen. It would be so cool to have a get together one day for all simmers to meet and socialize. I think Jonni should plan this!!! in the USA, of course. :P

Pffft, I vote Europe, W3C is Dutch after all.

I'm winning 35M GBP on the euro-lottery tonite, so I'll foot the bill. 3M'ers and Protectorate only ;) no NV.

Blue Serpent is running the door.

And I'll tell you what Jan, this game also has some of the dullest and cro-magnon minds that I have ever run into !

This is a game I'll remember fondly, but it did seem to die out... since I don't really play, I don't want to criticize too much, but my basic feeling is... the time investment the game asks for is too great compared to the frequency of interesting things happening. At the end, I felt that all there really was to do was tend my countries. Making a nice country is fun and all, but I definitely missed using it to fight people. That being said, putting all that time investment to possibly lose everything in a war seems far too severe in retrospect.

P.S. I see my fansite still listed as an affiliate site, haha.
