Well if you have poor public services, such as a Health Index lower than say 80. High unemployment may also cause people to just leave. But typically where you find population decline is in older, more populated nations where they have a high Health Index, but this causes the population to have a high life expectancy. This causes the population to age and eventually die off, and since there aren't much people in their 20s and 30s left in your country, you are unable to replenish your dying old with newborns.

For disasters, as long as you're prepared an have food units and inoculation units, for the most part you'll be fine.

Like Space said, the health index is the most important factor.
On top of that, the larger your population is, the higher your index has to be to achieve the same results. If you index stays the roughly the same while your population keeps growing, you will eventually get to a point where the growth starts declining and eventually an equilibrium is reached.

I have a decent country ('Morass' on LU) with OK index' and 57M pop. Population has been declining for a while now and the death rate is much higher than the birth rate. Does anyone know how to shift this? Are Health & Welfare TOO high? If I could I'd buy a 'younger' population group, but I can't specify ages. Sounds bad, but do I lower Health, Soc.Sec. etc and let the old folks die off? Any insights are welcome.

I've looked at your country and it looks like a well run and stable land.

You've probably bought a lot of extra population at one point and have an above average health index. More then 10% of your population is with retirement and quite a lot are 50+ you're going to lose a lot more pop over then next few weeks. The good thing is that once this age buble has died off it will save a lot of money.

There are a lot of dynamycs involved with the aging of your pop if you remove the 'hide/stealth' option i can take a much more detailed look at your cost vs benefits.

Thanks for the intelligent analysis Letsie. I did do about 120 raids & took pop. every time. Maybe that skewed the age group. I figured to 'hit the wall' @ around 70M pop. Now, I lose people every month. Not a lot, but enough to notice. I just want to move in a positive direction. If you think to get an idea from me dropping secrecy PM me and maybe we can arrange it. @crackerjack

I think that you're overating the secrecy settings. It's not that difficult to deduce 70-80% It's the little details that make all the difference in this game that your hiding but it's no real concern to me.

Ill try to explain how your current bubble got created (and the 2 that will hit your country in roughly 1,5/2 real life months)

When you take pop from a country you get a bit from every age group. You get a few babies, a few teenagers a few 20/30/40/50/60/70 year olds.

Of these groups only the 20/30 year olds produce new people. So they are the only ones who replace themselves. All those late 30ers and older people simply don't replace themselves. They just work for you and then die...

That is your current bubble that is dying of. The next bubble is because is because of the limits the game outs on larger pops. Once your pop is above 40million the natural growth drops like a brick.
You can only compensate that up to a point with imegration but the game will not let you grow (much) anymore. You can achieve a status quo but that takes a lot of time and a stable pop without your current spikes. Your age groups are still to inbalanced.
There is another 'death spike' going to hit you because even te baby makers won't make enough right now to compensate for themselves because of the size of your pop.
In time it will balance itself out but that can take months.
