Christos | Friday, June 13, 2014 - 01:08 pm I gathered during the last 2 years that this is a game mostly played by Americans, but still I expected someone would have already opened a thread about what's most important to the rest of us: Football (not soccer :P) in general and the World Cup in particular. Sigh... I guess I'll start conversing with myself: Last night's refereing decisions were scandalous and robbed Croatia of a well deserved draw against the hosts. Brasil IMO are much less talented and much more predictable compared to their past squads. They'll need a lot of help to make it to the semis... Teams to watch: Germany, Argentina, Urugay, perhaps Mexico and Colombia. I don't expect much from Spain and Holland. England and Italy are question marks. Belgium may raise a few eyebrows though. As for my country (Greece), we'll do well to avoid finish last in our group. |
LB Musty | Friday, June 13, 2014 - 07:29 pm The US is in the same group as Germany, Portugal, and Ghana so we're pretty much screwed. |
Christos | Friday, June 13, 2014 - 11:01 pm Yes you are :P I just watched Holland play pretty much the closest thing to total football. Wow! Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie just totally demolished the world champions Spain 5-1. What a match and what a team! |
Roving EYE | Friday, June 13, 2014 - 11:18 pm what a great game to watch, glad that Holland won that one hoping more of this continues yay! |
Jackwagen | Saturday, June 14, 2014 - 12:29 am obviously I'm pulling for Murica.... but my second was spain ...... i guess ill pull for brazil if i have to |
Volvo | Saturday, June 14, 2014 - 01:30 am The winner of the World Cup could be Costa Rica or Honduras...this is Faith |
Witchy_Woman | Saturday, June 14, 2014 - 07:27 am I prefer watching Lifetime. :P |
Christos | Saturday, June 14, 2014 - 11:15 am Really hard match tonight for my nation against Colombia. I hope the gods of football are on our side - otherwise it could get quite unpleasant... P.S. As a devoted Man Utd fan since the 80s I am already drooling at the prospect of Louis van Gaal coaching the devils next season |
Alterd Carbon | Saturday, June 14, 2014 - 07:31 pm As an American i'm not much of a soccer fan but I do enjoy North Korean basketball. |
Aussteigen | Tuesday, June 17, 2014 - 04:17 am Sticking to Deutschland obviously, then die Niederlande and Mexico third... Very happy the Netherlands defeated spain in such humiliating fashion, I hate em. |
Laskaris | Tuesday, June 17, 2014 - 05:18 pm My preferences are: * Chile + Deutschland * Italy the world cup gives me so much surprises, like the victory of deutschland against portugal or the Netherlands against Spain. |
Nedyah000 | Saturday, June 21, 2014 - 04:35 am Deutschland!!!!!! Gruppe G stands for Germany! I Hope Muller Gives us more Goals when we face bigger opponents. |
Christos | Wednesday, June 25, 2014 - 12:51 am I can't believe it!!! We're through to the next round!!! Hellas ole ole!!! |
Laskaris | Wednesday, June 25, 2014 - 02:06 am HELLAS HELLAS!!! |
Jackwagen | Wednesday, June 25, 2014 - 11:28 pm Murica FUCK YAH...... we are doing better then expected.... but our coach is still a pessimist probably because he is a goofy kraut |
Aussteigen | Thursday, June 26, 2014 - 12:07 am Ready to be squashed tomorrow? Hope you are... The German victory over Portugal was not surprising hahaha, it was a predicted result. |
WildStallion | Thursday, June 26, 2014 - 03:58 pm Tickets just gone on sale for the one and only never to be seen again BITE OF THE YEAR 2014 in one corner we have Iron Mike Tyson and in the other corner we have Luis Suarez, who would your money be on? lol |
WildStallion | Thursday, June 26, 2014 - 05:36 pm About an hour ago Liverpool FC striker Luis Suarez has been banned from any football activity for four months and international games for nine games following his biting incident with Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the FIFA World Cup. |
Supreme | Thursday, June 26, 2014 - 06:50 pm I saw that, it was crazy i kinda enjoyed it. |
Witchy_Woman | Thursday, June 26, 2014 - 07:23 pm I know, it cracks me up when they get da ban lol I like his style though, i would prob bite people, kick em in the shins, throw my soccer shoes at 'em, if I played and got ticked off! ha ha ha ha |
Christos | Thursday, June 26, 2014 - 10:22 pm Well, it's in his blood he can't help it :P |
blah Blah | Tuesday, July 1, 2014 - 04:08 am So... The Netherlands were down 1-0 till the 88th minute and still managed to win 2-1. Geuss who I'm cheering for? :P |
Roving EYE | Wednesday, July 2, 2014 - 12:03 am just goes to show the USA are not great at everything hence soccer they cant even beat Belgium a minor euro country |
blah Blah | Wednesday, July 2, 2014 - 03:51 am Add to that that Belgium was playing like a bunch of... *not effecient players* After 90 mins the Belgians had 30shots on goal vs 5 from the Usa. I do have to give credit to the USA goal keeper. At 1 point i thought the man was made of latex. |
LB Musty | Wednesday, July 2, 2014 - 05:16 am hahaha I don't think Americans care much about soccer... |
drys0013 | Wednesday, July 2, 2014 - 06:45 am @musty I don't think a lot of Americans care much about anything. its seems to be only the same 20-30% that ever really do care, that I meet. Most seem just plain lost in their own self-centered worlds. lol @the eye, I don't think that most of us Americans think were the best at everything, but a lot of them talk that way. its like everywhere else all have flaws. I think many do try to do their best. Your overwhelmed by the loud mouths (mostly politicians) that think they are better than everyone else and of course they really are not. I am just an American that doesn't fit your comment, nice to meet you. lol And BTW I think it was the Belgium Beer that took out the USA.... No, I don't follow soccer, but it sounded funny anyways. |
Christos | Wednesday, July 2, 2014 - 08:54 am It's football people, not soccer. Your football is "American football". In Europe they have "rugby" and in Australia "Aussie Rules football". |
Laskaris | Wednesday, July 2, 2014 - 06:04 pm Costa Rica is the bigger surprise of the World Cup but now plays against Holland... Brazil vs Colombia? i think Brazil Germany vs France? ...great match, but i think Germany will win Belgium vs Argentina? ...Messi will save Argentina AGAIN |
blah Blah | Wednesday, July 2, 2014 - 06:33 pm Costa Rica is toast. Plain and simple. Brazil vs Colombia? Brazil hasn't had a good game so far. All of their wins were based on a little bit of luck and a few good actions by 1 or 2 individuals. This might seem weird, but i actually think Colombia has a change to win this one. Germany vs France... the turtle vs the panzer... I hope the match will live up to the hype. Belgium vs Argentina? Messi will eat those Belgium fries for breakfeast. |
Jackwagen | Thursday, July 3, 2014 - 01:09 am NOOOOOOOO HOW THE GREAT HAVE FALLEN (USA) WHO SHALL I CHEER FOR NOW? |
Aussteigen | Friday, July 4, 2014 - 05:02 am Belgium... Minor Euro country? Its the capital of the EU, far from minor... Americans. Anyway, I'm hoping Germany beats France... The US was a worthy blood sacrifice for the German engine, thank you Jackwagen.... Belgian Beer... Drys? Did you mean Belgian Waffles or something like that? |
blah Blah | Sunday, July 6, 2014 - 10:29 am Costa Rica played like a bunch of turtles and still lost to the dutch lions :D There is no shell we can't break :D Belgium is nothing more then two former provinces from the Netherlands and France put together. But I still love them! And don't worry we will take revenge on Argentina for you. I would almost quit simcountry for a world cup final between Germany and Holland. That would be so awesome! For those who don't know it, the Netherlands and Germany have always been football rivalls. |
SOVI3T | Sunday, July 6, 2014 - 10:04 pm Germany vs Holland is a likely final. Brazil haven't got Neymar or Thiago Silva anymore so they're pretty much gone, and Argentina only have Lionel Messi (and maybe Di-Maria) to bank on. Personally i think Germany have a good chance, but Holland will probably win. Brazil to come 3rd. Jackwagen, i have to disagree, USA aren't great :D |
Volvo | Sunday, July 6, 2014 - 10:53 pm Congratulations to the fans of KNVB. Netherlands played well. Cheers! Volvo |
Christos | Sunday, July 6, 2014 - 10:58 pm @blah blah: Actually Costa Rica didn't lose to the lions. It was a 0-0 draw, so the shell withstood the pressure, didn't it? (with some help from the posts and crossbars of course :P) Brazil will be better without Neymar. They will give the Germans a run for their money. It's a match that can go either way. As for Argentina, they will be hit by Di Maria's absence but they will have Aguero back. The Dutch rely on just three (great) players: Snejder, Robben and Van Persie. The rest are average at best for this level. These three will be tired (especially Snejder), no doubt. They played two gruelling games with Mexico and Costa Rica, 230 minutes all in all, with the extra times. Now they will be called to play a third fixture in 10 days. The Argentinians had a relatively easier time with the Swiss and Belgium and, well, are slight favourites. |
Alterd Carbon | Sunday, July 6, 2014 - 11:58 pm I still like N. Korean basketball But I will be watching Germany V Brazil likely a german win but cant count out that home field advantage just saying. |
blah Blah | Monday, July 7, 2014 - 09:17 am @ Christos We won with penalty's. That might not mean that much to you but the Netherlands have one of the worst track records in the world. So winning one of those felt really really good :D I would like to add 1 extra player to your list. His name is van Gaal and he is the guy with the gouden pik :P (sorry it's a dutch joke that translates very poorly in English) If he tells the team to jump they ask how high, if he tells a player to play left back, right back, center field and offensive in 1 game then that player will aks for an extra pair of shoes and start running. As for stamina... psshhh 230 minutes of running is nothing for these guys. I mean, van Gaal makes them run just that to warm up for the daily training excercises :P First Argentina then the WOOOOOOOOOORRRLLDDD!! |
Aussteigen | Tuesday, July 8, 2014 - 08:15 am Brazil probably bought its way to 3rd place atleast.... hehe I will be watching the Germany-Brazil game later today eagerly, no expectations, as to not disappoint myself too much of anything unexpected happens.... |
Alterd Carbon | Tuesday, July 8, 2014 - 09:45 pm I'm amazed at the corruption in football |
LB Musty | Wednesday, July 9, 2014 - 12:11 am be careful carbon its pronounced futbol, haha europeans... |
LB Musty | Wednesday, July 9, 2014 - 12:13 am i couldve sworn you said soccer nvm. |
Christos | Wednesday, July 9, 2014 - 12:49 am Shock and awe tonight... Is there anyone who can stop the Germans? Not likely. |
Jock | Wednesday, July 9, 2014 - 01:01 am Yeah it was a shocker. Tomorrows game will be a closer encounter. Whoever wins will be a much bigger test for the Germans. Still I think they'll win it. |
Aussteigen | Wednesday, July 9, 2014 - 02:11 am What corruption eb, corruption would've been a Brazilian victory. Instead, they were properly steamrolled. Very humiliating. Deutschland |
blah Blah | Wednesday, July 9, 2014 - 01:44 pm Holy crap... die Manschaft pulverized them... it was a massacare. But I stand by what I said earlier. If we win tonight we will win the finals. For we are Dutch. The better our opponent the better we become. Another one of those weird things about the Dutch team. We always tend to lose from 'minor' soccer countries but we tend to play a lot better and win a lot more against strong opponents. Lets just hope we can take down Argentina tonight. |
Aussteigen | Wednesday, July 9, 2014 - 08:30 pm Right... hahahaha, good luck on winning them finals! |
Christos | Thursday, July 10, 2014 - 01:27 am Javier Macherano gave today a world class midfield performance. He was truly magnificent and along with Biglia created an unbreakable wall. But the Argentinians are going to need more than this to beat the Germans in the final. Let's hope they will get it from Messi. He owes the world a big World Cup match and it's long overdue. |
blah Blah | Thursday, July 10, 2014 - 03:42 am I just want to hide in a corner and cry ;( |
Aussteigen | Thursday, July 10, 2014 - 05:35 am Does "the better our opponent, the better we become" apply wih the Argentines? Hahaha And you expected to defeat Giant Germany afterwards? Your faith amused me plentifuly. |
blah Blah | Thursday, July 10, 2014 - 08:28 am *snif* Talk about kicking a man when he's down ;) You can't blame a guy for having faith. Ah well now we'll just have to settle for third place. And yes, that means we will beat those brazillian pansies! |
Aussteigen | Thursday, July 10, 2014 - 10:14 pm Ah, no, I don't blame you |
Jackwagen | Sunday, July 13, 2014 - 11:47 pm Congratulations to Germany what a game |
Aussteigen | Monday, July 14, 2014 - 01:14 am Weltmeister <3 |
Christos | Monday, July 14, 2014 - 01:26 am Well, as a much wiser man tnan me once said, shit happens... |
blah Blah | Monday, July 14, 2014 - 11:59 pm But when the shit hits the fan I start running. Germany deserved to win from Argentina. Although I must say that Argentina did put up one heck of a fight. |
Aussteigen | Tuesday, July 15, 2014 - 12:41 am Now Russia will host the 2018 world cup... Mixed feelings about that... I hope they behave and aren't being sanctioned by then... |
Jackwagen | Tuesday, July 15, 2014 - 06:51 pm I'm going to that one for sure xD....... Let's go murica |
blah Blah | Tuesday, July 15, 2014 - 08:32 pm At least I can understand the choice for Russia. Quatar on the other hand... |
Aussteigen | Tuesday, July 15, 2014 - 11:12 pm Choosing Russia if far from understandable.... especially after the Sochi Olympics... |
blah Blah | Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - 04:26 am But the russians at least like the sport. I mean the Quatarians (ok that sounds bad) don't even play footbal! And it's a bad day on any forum when there ar 10 anti/pro somebody political threads and only 1 thread about footbal |
Aussteigen | Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - 06:14 am @blah You can thank Nix for the stupid political scheiss on 4 threads. He should be banned for promoting negative and false propaganda, his use of the word "Zionists" is especialy disgusting. Now back to topic, Qatar is ridiculously hot, that's why they are reconsidering, plus the corruption and other scandals. The US will most likely host the 2022 World Cup in its place, it is a FIFA favourite because of its great infrastructure, stadiums, accomodation, etc. Russia, on the other hand, will make the 2018 World Cup the most expensive in hiatory, because they are corrupt, they don't have the infrastructure or even the stadiums. Personally, I wouldn't like to go to a country that is over nationalistic atm because of their Crimea Annexation, furthermore, word says Russians are Grumpy (hope not) and flinch at he sound of English. |
Anthony Demetriou | Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - 06:19 am Cool story, bro. |
Aussteigen | Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - 06:28 am @blah? |
blah Blah | Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - 08:32 am There is no way the US gets to host the next world cup. I mean come on! Yes, they are a great country and a decent candidate but they are hardly the only one. The FIFA is a corrupt, arrogant and downright silly organasation but they do know how marketing works. It's going to be hosted in a country that makes for a good PR stunt and has lots of money. Pherhaps one of the asian countries? |
blah Blah | Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - 08:33 am As for russia... they are corrupt, they are grumpy and they are over nationalistic but at least they like football. They've probably admited all these fine quality's to Blatter so he's not going to change his mind on this. |
Christos | Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - 08:47 am At least it will be cool in Russia... |
blah Blah | Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - 08:57 am Yeah there the temperature will have a maximum of 40C instead of a minimum of 40C :D |
Christos | Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - 09:02 am LOL - we may even see snow in a World Cup match. How 'bout that? |
blah Blah | Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - 01:46 pm If that happens I'll eat my simacount (don't ask how I'll make it work) |
Aussteigen | Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - 09:37 pm Not the next, lol, probably the 2022 WC. I haven't looked at all the possible candidates if Qatar gets shot down, but I am sure the US is one of em. The US has all the PR and Money*cough* they need to make one lol. |
Jackwagen | Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - 10:26 pm i love the US |
Anthony Demetriou | Thursday, July 17, 2014 - 02:08 am 'Murica, f*** yeah! :P |
Aussteigen | Thursday, July 17, 2014 - 08:09 pm What makes you love your country so much? |
