We have been using the same forum software for as long as I can remember, a new one has been promised to us for some time now. Before the new forum is implemented, I would like to share some of aspects I enjoy and condemn of the current forum and what I wish to see in the new one.

Dislikes:
1. Lacks images & video
We used to be able to post images on the forum but that feature has long been disabled. But it is sorely missed, especially now that I feel like smacking a meme in a thread every so often. Being able to post a video in a thread would be a nice addition too.

2. Formatting code
This one was a small nuisance to me, since the standard code for forums is now the bbcode. I do have to say that it provided an advantage on what came to posting tables on the forum.

3. Beginners forum
This forum is basically the Help forum. We have two forums that play the same role, so it should be eliminated. Telling new players there's only one forum for them borders ostracism.

4. External links
Not allowing external links sucks.

5. Link in forum moniker
This link used to lead to the country we were posting forum. When that changed to our game name, it lead to nowhere, but it was fixed so that we could send a private message to that person. I never liked that. I would much rather prefer the link lead to the user's profile, even more so when there isn't a link in the PM page to go to his profile.

6. It opens in a ***** pop-up
Seriously, what gives? This is annoying as hell. The page is never maximized, it looks play odd and it is just another useless ****** window that I have on my task bar. For the love of God, just let it open like a tab on my browser.

Former dislikes:
1. Not open to the public
This forum was closed to the public for some years after 2007 or 2008 until 2012. Took their time, but I'm just glad they realised it was a mistake.

Likes:
1. "Last Day"
I always loved the fact I could click "Last Day" and see all the active threads and new posts of the last 24 hours.

2. Post count
Actually, I like the fact there isn't a post count. People attribute status to a great post count, so this levels the field.

3. Register date
For the same reason, I also appreciate the absence of a register date.

Wishes:
1. Math
I would like to be able to write in LaTeX to display an equation. It is a common feature in many fora nowadays and it is a must in games such as these.

2. Subscription
It would be nice if I could subscribe by e-mail or RSS feed to a particular topic or forum.

I liked: when Laguna was moderator, and active.

I don't like: not having external links.

Former dislikes: Andy. He bans me too much but has found the key he threw away for, what was it, months? I have to check my emails for warnings daily now lol.

Wishes: For the promised like 2 years ago HELLO battle Royale world to squash some of these squabbles.

Same idea I floated years back. A monthly reset world. With a 30 coin buy-in 20 to the pot, 10 to w3c for the rake. Put x amount of money and military assets in 1,2, or 3 countries. Top winning players based on assets, countries conquered, or whatever measure at end of the period split the pool. A great way to learn the war game with very little measured risk.

Actually, there are some things to work out with the idea. I'll think about it a bit more deeply and email you guys with particulars. The most important idea for the function of such a world is, the learning opportunity it will give newbs, and the ability to just fight crap out already.

+10...Wendy's idea of a "monthly reset world".

It's been suggested in many different formats by many players over the years.

I think if you want to "ring out" the war game and get uninterested players participating, this is the way to do it.

Perhaps it is time to have that discussion in detail again.

Back to the forum...
Why does it still highlight a topic as having an unread thread after I close that topic, and go back to the list of topics (general, help, beginners etc)? That is annoying as it requires a re-visit to set the topic as no new threads/posts.

I believe LG meant it was the world the poster was in when he made the post that used to show in the avatar box bit. That should be re-instated as often new players make posts and dont even say what world they are on.

Just the general layout...it's er...ugly. So dated.

And I would like a credit system where a players responses can give them, I dont know..stars? for helpful relevant posts. Anyone responding to a post could give these credits and so newbs would have a rough idea of whose advice and/or opinion to take notice of, and whose to ignore.

Oh, and everyone should be issued a key to ban Wendy whenever they feel like it :)

How about a new thread button on the top of the forum page rather than the bottom.

There's no back button as far as i'm aware. Meaning if you look at a thread and want to look at another, you need to go back to topics and start all over again. Annoying..

No, you can click on the forum name (eg, general, kebir blue, trade etc) at the top of the thread you are reading and it will take you straight to the list of threads in that forum.

Also the back arrow button functions as a 'back' key.
