A document is being completed that will guide new players through their first war.

A new player can use the army in the country to immediately attack a C3 country and win the war quickly. New players have a neighbor country that has no president unless they cancel the country they had at the start and made a choice for a different one in a very crowded area.

This is not to say that starting a war immediately is a great move to start with, but it should be possible.

I would at least ask them to wait the 14 days they have to remain in automated econ protection Andy.

I think thats a bad move. One of the things I enjoyed the most was winning my first war. Not because I had a new country, or the possibilities it would open up. But because I had won it. I had learnt how to do it. I had worked out what to do. Each defeat made me stronger and each defeat expanded my tactics. Sure, on the third or fourth defeat I would probably have loved a guide. But if I had one I would have never felt like I did when I won. And that would have been a shame.
They, like I, already have all the info needed to win a war otherwise I would not have won (maybe;). And if they don't know then they should ask someone or join a fed. As I did.

nix, i disagree, i get your point, the sense of accomplishment... shouldn't be underrated. how ever, the War Game has suffered over the years, for exactly what you are complaigning about, why should some one who's looking for some fun, put that much effort into a game? that they just started?

it only encourages would be war gamers to go else where... i think this is a great change, and over time will change the sim country demograph, dramatically. as more people willing to war, get through the hardest part, the first war, with minimal fuss

Orbiter you are right.
This is our opinion too.
Nix made it and he stayed. Many beginners don't.

if the first war is easy but it teaches you how it can be done, the challenge will just move to the second war which will be more difficult but at least you know know the mechanics of the war process.

But is it not the learning of the mechanics of the war process that the game is all about? Thats like giving someone a puzzle with a guide on how to work it out.
Surely there are enough 'How to take a C3' on the forums? Or are the forums still not accessible to free players?

the problem is, by leaving it to players to investigate... we end up with very few, die hard, extreme players, that are very good, but doesn't really allow for allot of growth. those of us like you and me nix, that love difficult challenges... are few. and the game will be more successful, and more fun, if we make it easier for a larger variety of players
