Laguna | Tuesday, July 27, 2010 - 02:47 am I was reading a book about Tourism book a speaker offered me, and the author noted down some interesting english (mis)translation of portuguese and brazilian toponyms. So, Copacabana translates as "Hut cover". I can see that. Botafogo is "Set fire". I can see that too. Now, the rest of the list: Praca Maua - It's bad square Tijuca - Juca's uncle Carnaxide - A steak Caxias - Workaholics (obvious lie.) Niteroi - There's no rat (What? No tucos? Sad.) Miragaia - Watch the gay (just like Soho) Vila Franca de Xira - Take it Freetown Estoril - I'm at the river (that's the sea) Galeao is "Huge cock". Interesting, to say the least. But the location with the most tourism is probably Santarem (Holy Harem). So... Miragaia galeao, Tijuca. - Niteroi? - Just my galeao and my santarem. Anyone wants to go to Miragaia? I'll stop now. |
