Friday, June 18, 2010 - 01:39 pm The initial release of the Simcountry Space Program will take place on June 22nd. (Coming Tuesday). The release will include the full functionality of the feature and allow for space travel, space trading, and the transport of products between countries and space stations. We will evaluate the functionality of the space program and watch the way it is used. We expect some tuning and the addition of small features in the initial period and we plan more functionality in the future. Some products cannot be traded on space stations. These are very large objects like military bases, ships etc. These products will be traded on the individual worlds but will also be added to the direct trading market. More future features will include attack space ships with a variety of offensive and defensive weapons. These features will be added at a later stage.

Friday, June 18, 2010 - 02:15 pm After all that, all I read was "attack spaceships", YAY!!!!!!!!!!! Good move Game Masters! You have won me over! I wonder will that mean we can conduct inter-world war? :D

Friday, June 18, 2010 - 02:22 pm can't wait to test this baby out!

Friday, June 18, 2010 - 05:11 pm Interesting... "Some products cannot be traded on space stations. These are very large objects like military bases, ships etc. These products will be traded on the individual worlds but will also be added to the direct trading market." So this brings up my earlier point. Why did we need space trade when all we really needed was to expand the direct market to add more products?

Friday, June 18, 2010 - 07:20 pm It's simple: expanding the direct trade market does not promote the site or lure new players in. "Space trade" does. Personally, I'd be fine if the worlds remained isolated. I'm skeptical of the realistic profitability of trading between worlds. However, I must concede that they make the better choice in picking "space trade" rather than some functional, but lackluster, direct trade expansion.
Space Trade > Direct Trade

Friday, June 18, 2010 - 08:28 pm Perhaps they should add...Population sales to the space trade industry then.

Friday, June 18, 2010 - 08:30 pm Fasternating concept, Maestro.

Saturday, June 19, 2010 - 03:18 am I like that idea.

Saturday, June 19, 2010 - 07:58 pm More future features will include attack space ships with a variety of offensive and defensive weapons. LOL simtrek

Sunday, June 20, 2010 - 01:11 am My country DeadLands has the capibility of produceing solid missle fuel,go sc space progarm.

Sunday, June 20, 2010 - 10:00 am why does this feel like the end of a dream?

Tuesday, June 22, 2010 - 02:36 pm I've commenced what appears to be the fourth shuttle launch, and the first one done by a player. The Cargo Shuttle "Belasmo" has been sent (without cargo) from Scarlet Machinist on KB to Scarlet Zeppelin on LU.

Tuesday, June 22, 2010 - 02:40 pm Want a cookie?

Tuesday, June 22, 2010 - 03:02 pm Yes! That sounds tasty!

Tuesday, June 22, 2010 - 07:59 pm Ummmm..... is it just me or does anyone else agree that docking stations are too expensive?!?! (200 gc each=$92 trillion in game $ each/$20 in real $ each!!!!!!!)

Tuesday, June 22, 2010 - 08:44 pm And how come we can't buy/build them and rent them out or if we buy on a docking port for 200gc can we rent that out I'm confused

Tuesday, June 22, 2010 - 09:13 pm Yes. When you buy one you can rent it out.

Tuesday, June 22, 2010 - 09:14 pm Yea...i was pretty disappointed that the docking port cost 200GC's too. I built everything else I need...must be a docking station is more complicated to build then a Space Center or Space Shuttle (Sarcasm).

Wednesday, June 23, 2010 - 12:03 am Where do we buy the docking port and wheres the space functions. I dont see it anywhere

Wednesday, June 23, 2010 - 12:44 am if players dont like the space part of simcountry dont play, leave it for the vets

Wednesday, June 23, 2010 - 01:08 am I dont even see the docking station on the direct market. No where do I see the space functions.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010 - 01:30 am Click on the little space gadget at the portal page Warren. If you don't have it, you'll have to add it. I'm guessing the features aren't 100% yet, though i could be wrong, at the minimum, I assume the next steps will be further integration and streamlining. Each port is 200 bloody GCs though.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010 - 02:48 am OH! Thanks!!! I hsad no idea what was going on. I though the features weren't available for me LOL

Wednesday, June 23, 2010 - 04:11 am They're active, and they're possibly a little quirky. I just threw out 2 strat bombs for direct trade. Took a little work.

Thursday, June 24, 2010 - 05:55 am "Sorry, you can't buy Cargo Shuttles on the World Market. Please buy them directly." Ewww...

Friday, June 25, 2010 - 11:33 pm A week there were around 20 actives threads per day. Maybe it's only today, but I see only 4 threads now. That just won't do...

Saturday, June 26, 2010 - 12:33 am a boob done wrong..... the gm should allow all products to be traded on the new space program markets for full members anyway

Saturday, June 26, 2010 - 02:18 am Yeah, the fractional GC issue has been resolved, that makes certain aspects of the whole gig more functional now.

Saturday, June 26, 2010 - 05:53 am They still need to up the capacity for certain products. I mean 100,000 for one docking station for a product like oil? What's the point of trading when I can probably get it cheaper on my own world even though its at its peak price.

Saturday, June 26, 2010 - 12:09 pm You guys really make me laugh. You bang on about wanting new this and new that, change this and change that... and when it comes along, awww, its all wrong, not right, unfair. Two things I see here: 1) Be careful what you ask/wish for. 2) If you dont like it, dont use it/play it. If no-one used it, then surely the GM would have to adjust it, or (my preference) abandon it.

Saturday, June 26, 2010 - 05:31 pm I haven't looked too much into this space thing, but the first thing I'd like to ask is: What purpose does this serve? Why would I trade in space when I can trade the same goods on the planet without the same costs? Is there some level of micromanaging that will make this more profitable than it would be to sell on the world market? Like I said, I've only read what W3C has posted and I haven't experimented at all. So far, I haven't heard many positive comments.

Saturday, June 26, 2010 - 11:59 pm As WhiteDarkness said 'I just threw out 2 strat bombs for direct trade. Took a little work.' Its gonna be more to do with big ticket items like Nukes

Sunday, June 27, 2010 - 03:07 am Nix hit it in a nutshell. If it's not big ticket, it's not worth the effort. Believe me, I originally planned to load up an entire world's surplus stock and ship it to myself for sale on another world. I'd lose more money than I'd even dream of making unfortunately.

Sunday, June 27, 2010 - 09:17 pm Not truly needed, but worth it. However... Cost-benefit principle: an individual should only take an action if, and only if, the extra benefits are at least as great as the extra costs. We have to amortize for the docks, cargo shuttles and space centers. We do that by including those costs in the price of the goods we sell. Plus, we need to include the price of the space boosters and the cost of the goods. While we have no problem transmitting these costs into the goods and still remain competitive (on a small variety of goods), there is one resource that shoots a hole into Space Trading: time. This all takes time and patience, more time and patience than the world markets, thus removing any competitive advantage there is to space trading and as such there is no incentive to use this, expect some very few cases with high willingness to buy (nuclear weapons). There is one very luring incentive to use space transportation, but not necessarily space trade... Weapons that enter through the space center into the country's stocks do not damage military spending budget. But this doesn't imply you have to buy the weapons at Space Stations, you can merely transfer them from one country to another or from world to world. If things stay as they are... It just won't do. Incentive principle: if the benefits of an action increase or its costs decrease, more likely it is people choose that action. The greatest benefit increase will come from allowing greater amounts of goods to be exchanged within the same time frame. It will all be faster. That can be achieved by the following actions: * Divide the volume each good occupies and the storage space of a shuttle by x * Reduce the cost of space docks and allow them to be merged (or not) * Reduce the cost of space docks and introduce some method to expand their storage space * Multiply by x the storage space of a dock * Any combination of the above I believe it's better for x=10, because we all love the decimal system (and x>1 to avoid funny business). The amount of goods a shuttle can currently transport should not be increased, because of the weapons that can be freely transported. More importantly, the action that is chosen should be the one that better suits the system. Short version: The (normative) cost-benefit principle is being violated, push for the incentive principle: allow greater storage space in docks. Taken into account the price of 200GC for a dock and a daily rent rate of 0.4GC, it takes me 500 days to get my money's worth back. I believe a price of 150GCs per dock would be better, as it would take 375 days to amortize the dock, which is little more than a year. Terminology: Docks are available for renting and not leasing. A lease gives you the option of buying the object at the end of the contract. Although I haven't tested it yet, I'm certain the dock won't be available for purchase at the end.

Monday, June 28, 2010 - 01:50 am Hey...How do I get my ceo to sell it's cargo shuttles? I have several in Wally World (In this example Wally World is the ceo warehouse)

Wednesday, June 30, 2010 - 01:20 am I was thinking and... The space of a dock might as well be infinite, as the amount of goods that can be traded is still limited by (#shuttles * shuttle space)/voyage time. So, the best is perhaps to tie the volume of a dock with the a multiple y of the volume of a shuttle. The multiple, depending of the situations, will somehow relate with a suggestible optimal size of a space fleet. For instance, imagine there is a huge will to sell and buy interceptors, but there is only one space dock selling these, along with one buyer and seller. Naturally, this suggests that the optimal fleet size for the seller* and buyer is y. Imagine that there are now 2 space for the same market; optimal fleet becomes 2y for b buyer and seller. If the other dock belongs to another seller, it becomes 2y for the buyer and y for each of the sellers. If the volume of the demand is below the volume of a space dock, the number of shuttles for the buyer will be given as demand volume/y, and for the seller as well. Creating accurate and complete economic models, even for a relatively simple system such as Space Trade, gives a lot more trouble than it seems. Some characteristics are easy to spot though. And it is obvious that... Space docks need to hold more goods!

Thursday, July 1, 2010 - 06:25 pm LG Too complicated Just charge me a per ton fee on my shipping and let me trade with myself world to world. Between my CEO's

Thursday, July 1, 2010 - 06:40 pm Like a broken record Maestro.

Thursday, July 1, 2010 - 10:15 pm Relax Wendy

Friday, July 2, 2010 - 02:26 am Definitely be a good change to have the limit increase on what can go out, after all the more involved we are in this the more likely they'll have a more significant benefit from it. Overall, I'd like to see products not in the millions range on their price, actually become economically viable,s ince there's little to no logic in lifting anything but weapons and ammo currently.

Friday, July 2, 2010 - 02:47 am I'm relaxed, Maestro. Like a Broken record, Meastro.

Wednesday, July 7, 2010 - 03:57 pm There is nothing complicated about it. That is solely the formalization of an expected behavior.

Wednesday, November 3, 2010 - 07:34 pm can space shuttles be sold on a space station?

Wednesday, November 3, 2010 - 09:36 pm They are bought and sold through Direct Trading.

Tuesday, November 9, 2010 - 07:29 pm you know what would be great is if they added another market. this new market should be called galactic market.this new market automates trade between countries on different worlds.there would be a menu to see galactic shortages and over supplied. Trade routes would have to be brought or leased from space docks which would be the hubs for this. the trade would be completely automated so the shuttles would be auto loaded and transported automatically.also a new bank called the galactic bank that workers at a level higher than the world bank which a feature that lets you invest money into it for a much higher rate of return on income from interest. Also make owning space docks more exciting by adding to them space countries. last part add space war ships which behavior just as a navy would on a world.no c3 in space just player brought space docks/space countries.these space countries start with no infrastructure.

Tuesday, November 9, 2010 - 07:37 pm in order to participate in this new market you would have to use gold coins to establish trade routes.the hubs for these trade routes would be the space docks/space countries. This would bring mass appeal to space program and even bring in many new players.automation of loading space shuttles and flights is the key to the success of this.the space dock should have increased storage.shuttles should move 25% faster.

Tuesday, November 9, 2010 - 08:52 pm sirluis..It was discussed in the jozichat..as far as the space program goes.. ;) join the IA forums..and I've got a good guide on space posted there.

Friday, May 13, 2011 - 02:57 am November of 2010:
Six months later and after cargo shuttles are increased in capacity to 200 000 units and docking stations remain unchanged.
I tell you...

Friday, February 8, 2013 - 08:40 am It's funny. Just a couple of hours ago Wendy was giving Josias the "you sleep in the couch tonight" treatment in another thread, because of weapons in the space stations. And here I was pointing that the one and only big advantage of the space program is that weapons don't count towards the defence budget two years and a half ago. It's almost as if these error messages are trying to tell us something.
