I have a slave country that has a "General Cost of Government" that is far higher than all of my other countries. In fact, it is about 4 times higher than my main and higher than my main and other 2 slaves combined. I can't seem to find what would reduce this cost since the description of it is pretty vague. It says it is the cost of administration for the government and the police. Rich countries will have a higher cost but that does not explain much. Any ideas?

Thanks
Zen.

I believe the cost of government is influenced only by the size of the empire and the country's population, but this could just be my own misguided conceit.

Did you recently purchase (or conquer) the country? It could still be based on the old owner's empire size.

I always assumed Government salaries played a role in this. So a larger Army, Hopital staff, and Education System, would make for more govt costs in an individual country. I could be wrong, but hey who knows.

Yes. Salaries, population and empire size.

I did recently purchase the country and it was from a large empire. So maybe that cost will adjust over time to my empire?
I will look into the size of the army but it doesn't seem unreasonable.
I do not have a large empire at this time.

Thanks everyone!

I believe the cost will adjust.

On an interesting side note, Government Facilities (found in Trade >> Products in stock) is the actual building that is used to determine Cost of Government... the cost directly based on the number of these (which are based on empire and country size). However, you have no direct control over the number of these. You can't buy them, produce them, or sell them. One day, if I have the time, I may determine the staff used by these.

Sorry about that Zentrino...I would have thought the govt costs would drop almost immediately...one of the reasons I'm trying to get rid of all these countries...govt costs are killing me :S

It's ok. I had 14 countries once and the costs were tough to manage so I can only imagine. It is down to just under double my main's costs. I figure sometime this week, it will stop losing money (hopefully). :)
