nix001 (Fearless Blue) | Saturday, May 29, 2010 - 05:18 pm Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction....The chain reaction of evil--hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars--must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation. Martin Luther King, Jr., Strength To Love, 1963. I'm hoping that the West doesn't use this situation with Korea to try and further their power interests in the region and just sticks to the interests of peace. |
Scarlet (Kebir Blue) | Saturday, May 29, 2010 - 11:08 pm Really? I'm hoping the opposite. I'm dead serious, by the way. |
Laguna | Sunday, May 30, 2010 - 04:19 am I'm hoping for a military revolution in North and a four year reunification plan with the South. Any other bets? |
Vicious (Little Upsilon) | Sunday, May 30, 2010 - 06:06 am Notice how the South Koreans didn't care much about their warship being sunk. They're too busy shopping. Americans are too busy shopping plus worrying about the latest celebrity escapades. The Europeans are too busy finally understanding that the euro is a fairy tale. So North Korean ship-sinking, as Shakespeare would say, is just a lot of sound and fury, signifying nothing. |
Split (Kebir Blue) | Sunday, May 30, 2010 - 07:06 am huh i don't know where you get the info that South Koreans do not care about having their ship sunk. Sure NK has been talking crap for the last few years and more with crazy announcements like "If you continue sanctions we will go for an ALL-OUT war", but they actually made a military strike on them this time. Even for a country like NK, that is not just sound and fury.. After decades of tensions, sure South Koreans are used to having NK doing their thing, but this is already escalating quickly. I don't get why SK did not declare war, i am sure it has to do with the UN. Imagine the US having it's ship sunk not by "terrorists", but by an actual country, and having that country telling them to basically f*ck off or they will declare all-out war... And NK could actually damage South Korea, they got missile batteries that can reach Seoul apparently. My friend lives in SK and tells me right now it's ok, since nobody really "felt" the attack, but there is concerns for sure. Apparently there are some demonstrations of some pissed off SKoreans demanding war... The ironic thing is that NK would stand the most to lose in a war, as 1) they will probably lose if the rest of the world helps. 2) their economy of what's left of it is just dead, more sanctions is just nailing that coffin. 3) Even if they somehow win or don't lose, they probably will still get sanctionned to death by the UN, and you can be sure South Korea is not going to get taken by NK. I just don't get NK diplomacy and strategy.. if there is any. By the way, if they go to war, America somehow goes to war as well, as i just learned that the Korean army was still under US command in times of war(!). And i don't think America would appreciate losing a war, even if it's not with it's own troops. War is not great on any economy, unless one country simply dominates the other(then it's not war, it's just taking over a country). I don't think anybody wants that war except SK, so it's not going to happen. I hope... I think as soon as Kim dies, we can expect NK to change, for better or worse. There is so little info on his successor that it's hard to tell, but NK has been in so much crap that i think it can only get better. I think it would be hoping for too much to get a reunification... maybe in 10 years? Kim has to die first.. |
Vicious (Little Upsilon) | Sunday, May 30, 2010 - 07:29 am Didn't you promise me 15 gc as compensation for your hostile takeovers, then never delivered? And the South Koreans care so much that they're going to do, what exactly? |
Split (Golden Rainbow) | Monday, May 31, 2010 - 05:17 am Still waiting on you getting your shares out. I did my first part already, waiting on you. If you want to continue talking about this, you can contact me ingame. As for the topic on hand that interests me here, i think i mentioned the obvious to your question... war? It's not like they are not ready for it. Like i said, if it wasn't for the UN(my opinion of course..), SK would be all over them. China is not going to back NK up for that long on this road, and so is Russia. They like what NK is doing, but not to a point where they are ridiculed for keeping this support... the evidence that the torpedo came from NK is almost fullproof... And if China and Russia pulls out their support, NK has no more weapons supply, nobody to veto economic sanctions on them, etc. I am still wondering why you said South Koreans don't care, i don't understand... Where is that coming from..? You talking about the population, the politicians or both? It's obvious that SKoreans do not absolutely want a war that could cost a crapload in lives and assets (over a ship..), but that certainly does not mean that they dont'care... Don't take it as a personal attack.. i am just asking. No war does not mean no caring.. They already closed all economic trades with them, and NK (again) threatened that if they kept closing trades, war will happen. I never thought i would say this about anybody, but really, i can't wait for Kim to pass away and give dictatorship to somebody else less crazy... it's probably the best scenario for everybody... Koreas might get along better, demilitarize maybe.. the US do not have to keep a presence in Asia so much, China does not have to worry about the US taking over NK via SK and putting a US friendly leader in NK. Everybody has enough problems in their home country, they should fix those first... |
