I just thought these should be published again, seems many a newer player has not even heard of them.
They are a set of morals, not rules, that players are/were advised to stick to.
Some may need to take note.

1. Thou shalt not hostilely take another players corporations.
2. Thou shalt read the game documentation, though it appears out-dated.
3. Thou shalt not be an asshat.
4. Thou shalt not sell nukes to noobs.
5. Thou shalt not use sneak attacks.
6. Thou shalt not cuss at anyone except asshats.
7. Thou shalt not piss off veterans.
8. Thou shalt not betray one's federation.
9. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors lands.
10. Thou shalt not disobey the Game-God for he wields the mighty IP ban.

(Thankyou J. Stalin for these are copy/pasted from a post of yours)

AssHat = Wendy

I piss, S^%T, and wipe my arse with all of the first nine commandments.

Of course, I do respect the w3 management, and they know I do.

But as far as anyone telling me what to do with my good 36 bucks a year. Please.....

Remembering way back when I first started I campaigned against any such commandments. Yes, it was a bumpy start and not recommended for everyone. But I don't like the way it seems to be applied in this instance nor the previous.

LOL!

Asshat isn't very common around the web, but here it is a daily prayer.

An asshat is essentially what you get when an ass and a n00b decide to mate. How do they mate? It's still a mystery to us all.

An asshat bears the surliness and persistence of an an ass with the ignorance of a n00b.

Haha, you're all really funny.

Wendy, the 'commandments' are not rules to dictate how people enjoy their game, they are a suggested moral code to promote the enjoyment of the game for everyone. They used to be semi-enforced by the wider SC community. Haven't I seen many a post recently about how the community should police itself, not call for GM rule changes?

Wendy, you yourself are on a campaign to ensue the security and welfare of LU, I now call on you to show YOUR sincerity by talking to your fed member Meow69 about his attitude to selling nukes to "anyone who can afford them".

Explain to him that they are not the great mythological deterrent and panacea that noobs seem to think they are.

An argument that "business is business" doesn't wash either as you and I and any non new player will know, they cant be produced and sold with profit in mind.

So what do you say Wendy, do you want stability and security for LU or not? Proliferation of WMDs is not the way to achieve it.

To Meow, you are in breach of Nos. 4 and 7 (not only you, please dont think I am singling you out) and you are close to breaching No. 3.

I suggest if more people kept this 'code of honour' then the game would be a better place.

Crafty.

Quote:

These ten commandments were originally written as a satirical joke, following a less than serious proclamation of the formation of the Church of Simcountry. I took it a step further since it was pretty amusing to claim papal doctrines and such while offering advice for newer players.

@ crafty.

how am I pissing you off. I simply see no reason that If I have the factories making them, and I have a surplus. why not sell? how many posts on these forums do you see people offering nukes and begging for nukes. at least two or three a month. as far as getting them sold to noobs three vet players. that shall not be named sold me not only the weapons, but the plutonium to make them. I was making them already of course, but I built up a stockpile faster then I would have otherwise. I have never used them or even been in a war. I don't want one now. another question who decides who is or who is not a noob. is there a do not sell nukes to these people list somewhere. for one I am a noob I know that by that definition I shouldn't have them yet it was veteren players that gave advice and materials to make them. you said yourself that any competent player knows how to defend against them. so most of the people you know would probebly not be affected by me selling them I have thus far only sold to veteren players no noobs but I will not be told who I will and will not sell to. if they have the money, are not actively engaged in a war, and ask to buy nukes from me then I will probebly sell them a few. I mean no disrespect to you or anyone.

SC atheists need and follow no commandments:P

I love the new interpretation of asshat...lol.

When dealing with the Portuguese, best to adopt the roll of DOUBLE or TRIPLE asshat. Those coastal European elites have all manner of creepy crawlies.

The big problem with noobs having nukes is that they fire them at other noobs that don't know how to protect themselves against nukes...no biggie right...well what if you are the country next to them. You take fall out, and because the noobs do not know how to take a country, they will just keep nuking each other till they get bored and quit the game. Though no fault of your own...you are losing corps and population from the fallout or are forced to take 1 or both of the noobs out, which makes you look like a bad guy noob hunter.

@Zeba, rather than going 'noob' hunting you could share your knowledge of nuclear defense with them. Seems easier than anything else.

"5. Thou shalt not use sneak attacks."
Regarding commandment 5, then why do sneak attacks exist?

"9. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors lands."
Regarding commandment 9, then why do offensive military units exist?

Haha...I know...but when being faced with c3 nuke warfare...they're a great tool :) It was my corps that I got all bent about...then I realized...it's my own fault for having the state corps anyway...ipo them and then don't have to worry...learning is fun! I guess the key is to do what it takes to get the job done...lesson learned.

See, you're missing my whole point entirely.

You are the kind of people who would stab someone in the back huh? You think it's cool to throw rocks while hiding behind a mask? Yes, maybe sometimes there is a justification and sneak attacks could be a useful weapon, but the point is, it's not really conducive to a 'happy' game on the whole.

@Vicious, look up the meaning of 'covet', there is a difference between genuine war and piracy through greed (coveting). A neighbour would mean an active player btw, no problem with raiding inactives to prevent the GM swallowing the assets, (maybe this should be an appendant to #9, heh).

So I'll make my point again, these so called commandments are, to me, a sort of moral code, that if we were all to try to follow the general gist of, would make SC a better place to be.

LMAO at myself, and this is all coming from an atheist who wouldn't put any credence in the story of the bibles' commandments.

Well Crafty when you are being constantly declared war upon for the sole purpose of throwing nukes at you from c3's while the person hides in wp I don't think you'd feel too bad about killing their strategy by taking out their bases before the war starts. There is no secrecy, the person knows who is doing it...it's just a tactic and just like any other tactic there are counter tactics but they cost money as they should.

Would chronic commandment-breakers who are vets be subject to retroactive renoobification? Thus, in effect, sending them back to square one?

Ying and yang.

Good and bad.

Vicious and docile.

Its the combination of both philosophies that make an interesting game environment.

Over the years the most memorable points in the game have been when these two positions climaxed in epic struggle.

Ive grown to appreciate both sides really.

regarding rule #1, what if ALL the corporations in a country were not producing anything due to a shortage of materials?...and this had been going on for about a week?...and i already had a substantial stock investment in this country BEFORE this occurred?... is this a hostile takeover or protecting an investment already made?...would this make me a pariah? (and not a member of the lower caste in southern India)...comments please, ty...

first, you can only take over corps in a country with your ceo, not a country in your empire. if you're asking if you can take over cheaper corps with your ceo you should ask the president of the country. the way the game is now it's more of an advantage for a pres to have all ceo's anyway. you will still have to pay a penalty of at least 50b to take it over. leaving the corp in the country is usually advantageous to the country since you have to pay a fee to use resources of the country. if you decide to move the corp, that might be considered a hostile move but if the corp is doing poorly you might be doing the pres a favor by moving it. also, you'll have to pay a penalty to move it. it's important to be working with a good pres for the benefit of you both, so if you want to buy a corp, just message him/her to see if they are okay with it.

Some CEOs buy enough stray shares sold by investment funds to get control of corps of active players. Some of us regard that as another form of hostile takeover.

Those of us who buy control of public corps of inactive players don't always succeed at getting 50%+ of the shares. We can't monitor investment fund sales 24 hours per day.

If CEO A takes uninvited control of a public corp of active Player B by buying shares, Player B might tell him to stop the takeovers. If CEO A continues those takeovers, he's being hostile.

Hustling away someone's public corps in which he invested time and effort deprives him of that investment. Unless invited, it's wise to leave the public corps of active players alone.

Communication is the key. If a failing CEO/Pres refuses to co-operate after you have asked them to, then any action you take could hardly be considered 'hostile'.
