Scott Hifeng (Kebir Blue) | Monday, December 22, 2008 - 01:32 am Until I had a "major" earthquake in my main country (KB/Nostero), I thought the effects seriously impaired a country. So when I recently experienced one, I expected, based on what I've read here in the forums, the worst, only to be surprised by how minimal, overall, the damage was. I lost about 250,000 citizens, 5 corporations and my country score never wavered. Full disclosure, and meaning no disrespect to the dead, I replaced them pronto using Gold Coins. (I found it curious that my neighboring slave country was also affected, to a lesser degree, but not a single other bordering country.) I had prepared a complete disaster recovery complement, deployed them immediately, with zero effect. As far as I can tell, they weren't even used. So now I wonder, what is the point of buying a huge amount of recovery supplies? Apart from that question, my point here, and I do have one, is to respectfuly question this whole idea of giving aid via Security Councils to countries that have been hit by natural disasters. How about, instead, basing assistance on noobness or country score? I remember when I was very new how pleased I was to get the gifts of money, population and weapons. Why not supplement the SC gifts with Security Council gifts as a sort of welcome package in each world? I'm just thinking aloud. I pose these questions based on a relatively new player's (mine) personal experience and in a spirit of positive inquiry. I certainly accept I may be missing something here, so any corrections would be much appreciated. Best regards - Scott |
Jo Salkilld (White Giant) | Monday, December 22, 2008 - 02:57 am Scott, the Security Council on White Giant do exactly that. Most of the aid proposals are for promising newbs who made a few mistakes early on, or for returning players who aren't up-to-speed with recent changes and run into trouble. Unfortunately, on WG at least, it takes something exceptional to get the majority of players to vote it through. For some reason, most people don't want to see aid going out Hugs and respect Jo |
BorderC (Fearless Blue) | Monday, December 22, 2008 - 03:02 pm Yeah, I think Jo is right. In my short time here I have seen many more freshmen players getting the aid than earthquake victims. This is true for KB, at least, where I've done most of my playing. I don't know about other worlds. I think the Security Council is trying to do the right thing, but often times they get voted down in the general vote. We need to get a strong bloc of players to consistently vote on these things if we want more positive results. BC |
andy Clark (Fearless Blue) | Monday, December 22, 2008 - 03:19 pm I agree,BorderC. I know on FB my guys on the S council try to get them passed, and i ask my fed mates to vote yes[for the most part].Regardless of personal feelings,if aid is needed it should be given. My thoughts.... Regards AC |
The Crafty Cockney (Kebir Blue) | Monday, December 22, 2008 - 06:18 pm Yep, regardless of some other players ideas of what a country should or shouldn't be doing... Ooops, better shut up before I'm threatened again. |
